Looking at it from a purely objective standpoint:
-He doesn't have a stutter. -He doesn't forget what he's saying mid sentence. -His voice is raspy enough to mask the fact that it sounds pre-pubescent. -He doesn't use insane metaphors or randomly change tone to highlight an idea, but he doesn't drone.
But the majority of the IWC says "EWWWWW, Mysterio's promos icky, nonono!", when it's clear there are no glaring flaws in his game. Now if the whole thing is just based on him going into fits of Spanish...well...

It's not really horrible, but it's not all that memorable either. He's probably like a 5 out of 10.
At least he dropped his post unmasking "gangsta" ways from WCW. THOSE were horrible.

Main problem is that most of what he says sounds like he's not really into it all - he can get into things sometimes, but oftentimes Rey sounds totally disinterested in what he's saying.
Of course, this isn't helped by the fact that he has a voice that makes ears bleed.

Mostly, it's that he sounds like a 10 year old, and even if he's not saying it, I hear everything he says as "When I grow up, I want to be Eddie!", despite the fact that he's in his 30s and has been around forever.

He just sounds... normal.
And normality is not a drawing point for the masked Mexican midget who uses his crazy flipping abilities to defeat guys three times his size.

He's not terrible at it, it's just that his mic work doesn't stand out. He's like a C student on the mic.

its because guys like batista "Weapons are not only encoraged, they are allowed!" and Bobby Lashley "I say you are a bathturd" are memorables from being so bad at mic
Rey is at a middle point that you dont even remember that he talks

I'd have to add the Spanglish aspect too. Not to sound offensive but the moment he starts speaking spanish I zone out. Add to that the fact that I rarely listen to a face's promos (Honestly unless they're in a really heated fued I find face promos to be interchangeable) and He's a blank slate to me.

He never has anything memorable to say. That's the only issue.
His promos are always like "and I will beat you at Summerslam!".... like that's it. He never really says anything.

He never has anything memorable to say. That's the only issue. His promos are always like "and I will beat you at Summerslam!".... like that's it. He never really says anything. You need to add a random "with the six..... one...... nine!" in every promo. Like most everyone says, Rey says generic promos in a 10 year old's voice and adds one spanish phrase to it. A promo where someone doesn't get a point across is worthless. Rey's promos have never helped sell his character, a feud... anything.

I don't get the Spanish stuff most of the time, so that's why I don't like it. But he's not 'bad' per se. He's just not 'good' either.

Like others said, he just sounds so young. I know it's horrible but I laugh every time the "Don't Try This at Home" ad comes on and he says "I BROKE MY KNEE FIVE TIIIMEEES." (or whatever it was he injured). It almost sounds like a South Park-esque stereotype.

Because he reminds me of a stereotypical child from a kids show stood in the ring talking about how he's going to give the big bullys what for.

I personally don't agree with the part about him sounding like a kid, I just think he's unexceptional on the mic. This post just about sums it up: He never has anything memorable to say. That's the only issue. His promos are always like "and I will beat you at Summerslam!".... like that's it. He never really says anything. That, plus as Albino Hooch is Crazy! pointed out, a "Six...one...NINE" sometimes thrown in. He's just not a captivating interview like a lot of guys are.

There's nothing BAD about his mic work, per se, but there's nothing out and out good about it, either. His mic work is the epitomy of mediocrity.
