I thought it was cool to have him out there in front of his hometown crowd -- but WHY, in storyline terms, was he out there in the first place?
Ziggler interrupts him, and Patterson turns to leave, as if he was done with what he intended to do. Thing is, he didn't do anything.
Did I miss something?
I get the whole, put Morrison over by having him save Mr McPatterson, but it fell really flat.

Well, they are in Montreal! What more reason do they need to bring out a 'hometown hero' so to speak?
However he was about to announce something presumably important before Ziggles interrupted him - and I figure he was a tad intimidated after seeing what he could do, so he just said 'screw it' to the announcement and tried to leave. Maybe he'll get round to it on a later date, maybe he won't - but I don't think it was intended to be a huge part of storyline, just something for the fans and a bit of heat.

Because I needed a reason to be on the show.

He was the original IC Champion Yeah, winning it in a tournament in Rio De Janiero. But he had an announcement to make or something, and it just felt like a segment that went on way too long, with Morrison not really getting the big reaction or Dolph being hated for being out there.

I agree, but I'd blame that more on the classic 'bizarro world' Montreal audience than the talent involved. Just a bad night for a normal segment.

I marked out when the Montreal crowd gave Ziggler to old ECW arena chant of "Shut the LOVE up!"

I think Patterson was going to introduce John Morrison, and gave him accolades.

I think Patterson was going to introduce John Morrison, and gave him accolades. Those chants are defiantly getting edited out on the dvd.

He was definitely about to announce Morrison. Which makes it odd that Morrison took so damn long to come out.

Ziggler got huge heat though, it's obvious he's the future top heel of WWE.

I loved the "Shut the f*** up chants." Stay classy, Montreal. Vince: "Are they swearing on my PPV?!" Writers: "Yes, sir." Vince: "THAT'S IT!!! Call Taker and Punk....SCREWJOB FOR MONTREAL AGAIN!"
