There are now 3 guys on the active roster (Kofi, MVP, Cena) who use a People's Elbow-like move.
Is that maybe just a few too many people doing this spot?

Yeah especially because Kofi's has the only chance of hurting an opponent. Rock's didnt have to...because he was The Rock.

Maybe. Especially since they're all on the same show.
I don't mind moves that interact with the crowd but it's just stupid how long the opponent lies on the ground while the other guy stands for 10 minutes in amazement that the situation to do the move has arisen for 1000000000th time.

Tyler Reks does a move called the high tide, which is him doing some dancing, and then doing a jumping elbow. He's done it more in FCW though.

I guess I should've made the subject of this thread clearer. I'm referring specifically to modern-day WWE right now. Right now, at this very moment, Raw has 3 men on the roster that all do a variation of the People's Elbow and it's too damn much. Morrison has his Standing Shooting Star Press. You take that back right now.

But we're talking about Attitude Era WWF, where the peoples elbow was made famous, while many more then just 3 different wrestlers did the same kind've spot. So what's the problem?

These moves are unfortunately pop gatherers for their respective wrestlers. As long as your set-up includes:
-Bouncing off the ropes -Shaking some random appendage (waving arms, shaking knees, Meatspin) -Looking at the crowd and waiting for something (BOO!, You can't see me, absolute apathy) -Cleaning dandruff off your shoulder -Checking the time -Looking at an imaginary watch -Doing your taxes
You should be set up for a good pop!

Dusty Rhodes was doing an "elbow drop with theatrics" before anyone I can think of for a finisher. I guess you could count DiBiase Sr.'s "Kiss knuckles, fist drops" signature move.

Unlike the People's Elbow the "Jerking Off" "Five Knuckle Shuffe", MVP's "Balling" and Kofi "Boom Boom" are transitional moves. They never end matches and should rather be compared to "The Worm". The only moves I can think of right now that really falls into the same category as the "People's Elbow" is Hogan's "Leg Drop of Doom" and Earthquake's finisher. I think in these days where MMA gains popularity there is no room for over-the-top cartoonish bounce-off-the-rope finishers.
