I have a feeling that the guy who wasn't around or didn't get the chance to be booked enough may've been Joey Matthews, and I know this maybe bad coming from a Joey Matthews mark, but part of me understands that now if it was the case. Joey, while he was in ROH, was taking bookings all over the place, and is usually apart of OVW, especially since Danny Davis is like a father to him, as he's said before. I'd like to get his comments on his "WWE style" comments directed at Joey Matthews, which Joey has talked about before.

"People don't buy DVDs for characters and story lines." I'm curious as to the reasoning behind that comment. One of the reasons that I've avoided (for lack of a better word) recent ROH released is solely due to the fact that I didn't care about the characters and stories anymore. The wrestling is still great and all, but there's more to a good show than work rate.

"People don't buy DVDs for characters and story lines." I'm curious as to the reasoning behind that comment. My guess, is that great characters and great storylines require more than one show. While there are a lot of people who would buy every DVD, I don't know how the sales cut. Speaking for myself, I wouldn't purchase every show, I'd only get the good ones. And it's the wrestling that'll make it a good show.

Gabe is right when he says people don't buy DVD's for characters and stories. They make a killing on DVD sales during a show, and while in line you never hear "Hey what show had the angle where AotF wrapped Mark in barbed wire?" it's more "What show had the final match in the best of 3 series with Danielson and Aries?" Gabe knows his fanbase, and catered to them (sometimes too much).

I dunno, in the shows I went to in 06 and 07, I remember hearing people asking which show was it that Punk turned heel and left with the title belt quite a few times.

Looking forward to this, he doesn't seem to be terribly bitter towards the company or Adam.
Also I'm glad to see KC is upping their game as far as on screen graphics are concerned.

I just watched the DVD. It ran almost 2 and a half hours so I'm not going over everything, and I'm not giving away everything because you SHOULD get the DVD. It's a really fun watch, even if you don't like Gabe. He isn't entirely Gabe-like here, if that makes sense. Spoilers are below for a few of the major things coming up were he still booking, read if you want:
[SPOILERS]
-First off, Age of the Fall. Remember that promo Tyler cut at Ring of Homicide II where he said change was needed, and it would end with the World Title? That was the subtle beginning to the Tyler/Jacobs split. Gabe was going to have Tyler start cutting similar promos at all the live shows (to help get Tyler comfortable behind the mic) and have him going in a more positive "bright" direction, meanwhile Jacobs was going to descend in to total madness. Going even darker, not caring about anything anymore and just trying to destroy everything in Ring of Honor. It wouldn't be the typical bickering partners break up we saw the two go through under Pearce. Starting at that show in Danbury when Tyler pinned Homicide in the 4 way, he was going to go undefeated all the way to his one on one title shot against Nigel later on. Gabe said, and I quote, "My booking philosophy starting with right before I was let go was 'how does this benefit Tyler Black'?" He says in no fewer words that ROH was going to be Tyler's company. He said that no matter what, Tyler would stay face. It wasn't going to be a situation like Nigel where if the fans turned on him they would go with it. Tyler was set to be the face of Ring of Honor beginning at Final Battle. Someone else was going to get an undefeated run parallel of Tyler and that was....
-...Davey Richards. Gabe had plans in 2009 to build up Tyler vs. Davey as a World Title match main event in the Hammerstein Ballroom. Davey was going to become a total beast and mow over everyone in his path. Davey would have also won Survival of the Fittest, had it happened.
Davey was NOT going to be ROH's biggest heel in 2009 however, that was going to be Austin Aries who Gabe says, "was going to get the biggest push of his Ring of Honor career beginning in 2009 as a heel." He was going to have Aries turn at Final Battle, which ended up happening anyway, and then take on a new persona where he ratchets up the cockiness and arrogance to a level he's never touched before. Aries was going to have a character who truly believed he was smarter than everyone else. Gabe said he wanted Aries to become as hated as someone like The Miz is on WWE. (He put over Miz and Morrison big time btw).
-The big one, Nigel's title reign. Had Gabe not left, this reign would have already ended. He was building to what most of us were expecting. Semi-Main of Final Battle 2008 was to be Nigel defending vs. Tyler Black, with Black ending Nigel's run. Gabe was planning on putting over Black's "God's Last Gift" and Phoenix Splash as a similar finish to Aries' brainbuster/450 combo in the weeks leading to the show. Black was going to hit GLG, and Gabe was hoping for a reaction similar to when Aries hit the brainbuster on Joe at FB 04. Tyler however MISSES the Phoenix, but as Nigel goes for the lariat Tyler traps him in a backslide and wins the ROH title. That finish is used to set up rematches with Nigel claiming he lost on a fluke.
After the match Nigel is a man and gives Tyler the belt. Jacobs, now by this point a total lunatic beyond any chance of saving, comes down and demands Tyler give him the belt so he can destroy it (maybe set it on fire). Tyler refuses, Jacobs pulls out his spike, Aries comes down for the save .... SWERVE ... he attacks Black. We basically get what we did at Final Battle, only Jacobs is totally insane by now and Aries is going over the edge. Black's first three programs of 09 as champion then become: Jacobs, Aries, and Nigel. Gabe also mentions that depending on how well Aries/Jacobs got over with the fans they may have been the ones to beat Steenerico later on, but MUCH later on. Steenerico were getting a godly run as tag champs under his watch.
-One point that really caught me off guard, Gabe says Necro's push could have potentially depended on how well "The Wrestler" did. If it blew up big enough, he was set to put the World Title on Necro for 4-6 weeks and see how that went. Dead serious.
-Smaller note, but under Gabe Mike Quackenbush was set to return in Philly at ASE IV and face Austin Aries, with the finish being controversial setting up Aries' turn the next night.
-Prince Nana, this would have been awesome and really it could still happen. This was eventually going to lead to Nana taking Bobby Dempsey's role in SNS Inc. as the lackey after Bobby turned on SNS Inc. at Final Battle in Steel Cage Warfare. Nana would be Sweeney's bitch, but all the while he would be in the background manipulating his way back in to a position of power. Depending on who the fans sided with more, one of them would turn face in July/August of 09 and start a faction feud (JUST THOSE TWO, NOT FACTION WARFARE AGAIN) against the other. Signing away each other's talents, going at one another. Basically Embassy vs. SNS Inc.
-One of his biggest disappointments he says was trying to book Mike Quackenbush and not being able to do it. Had he been able to full time, he was pushing him full throttle. Other disappointment was trying a million times to book RVD, but he could never do it.
-By the end of 2009 Kenny King was planned to be one of ROH's Top 2 babyfaces. Following a nasty split with the YRR Gabe was going to strap a rocket to his ass.
So those are just a handful of things. Gabe revealed his full cards for every show between Toronto and Final Battle, and went in to FULL details for 2009. The thing is totally worth a watch, there's a ton more to it than what I just talked about.
