Remember the old WCW entrance stage that was the same height as the ring apron back in like 89-93? Does anyone know why they had an entrance like that? Was there actually a reason for it or did they just think it set them apart from WWF?

this may seem dumb but i loved it... this is prolly wrong but i think they built the ramp that high so everyone could see the wrestlers coming out. So people in the upperdecks would see them better and the people in the front seats or closer seats would always have to kind up look up to see the wrestlers which prolly made them seem bigger and more larger than life

Once Russo and Bischoff "restarted" WCW towards the end, they used the ramp that went straight to the ring for awhile. I think once Kanyon got tossed off the 3 tier Cage and through the ramp, they switched back.
I loved that ramp too. I used to think it was so cool when two wrestlers were fighting outside on that ramp, and one of them could be irish-whipped off the ropes on the ramp. I also know that WWF used a similar ramp a couple of times in like '89 or 90'. I have a house show match from the Maple Leaf Garden, Warrior vs Andre, where they had a ramp that connected to the ring.

Only thing I wouldn't like about the ramps being like that these days is if a high flyer wants to do a dive to the outside of the ring, he'd have to do it at the other sides. Which isn't always as good, because the ramp side of the ring has the most space to dive at without hitting any kind of barricades.

Yeah, Slamboree 2000. The funny thing is, the commentators acted like this was some new thing for WCW. I loved seeing it return after a six-year absence.
When I was a kid and took tae kwon do, I used pieces of boards I broke to build a small runway for my toy wrestling rings.
Besides the house shows in Canada (one of which I saw on WWE 24/7) I think the closest WWE came to a runway like WCW's was when RAW got its new look in 1997. I remember the ring was on a raised platform and the ramp connected to that.

I think the ramp right by the ring opened up possibilites for new exciting spots in matches. Unfortunately, it also increased risk of injury. If they really want to do something different, they should go back to having the entrance aisle go diagonal to the corner of the ring like they used to in some old WWF shows. Nobody does that anymore.
if you can read this, get out while you still can.
