As we all know, the NWO was WCW's most successful angle. The group was lead by newly turned heel Hulk Hogan and with his leadership, it was a powerful force to be wrecking with.
Sting was the man who's goal was to take the faction down. It had over a year build up and the showdown between The Stinger and The Hulkster was supposedly going to culminate at Starrcade 97. Sting won the match and the championship from Hogan, but controversy arose concerning that. Hogan had the match won with an alledged fast count(the count was clearly at a normal pace), but Bret Hart, after being screwed a month earlier, had the match restarted. Many fans were not happy with the end result and feel that was the beginning of the end for World Championship Wrestling.
After that, the NWO's dominance have continued, though was getting stale at that point. Post-Wrestlemania XIV, WWF turn the tides in the ratings since regularly WCW viewers were sick of the NWO and found the product WWF put out to be new and fresh.
Anyway, the NWO more than ran its course, and should've ended long before it did, so with that in mind, how would you book the NWO storyline to keep it from becoming oversaturated?
Here's what I would do, I'd keep everything exactly how it was going into Starrcade. I would have Sting win the match and championship from The Hulkster cleanly. After that, I would have dissention arise within the nWo stemming from Hogan's loss. Hogan would challenge Sting for the belt at Superbrawl and come off short.
I would have the rest of the nWo have a civil war with each other(bare with me on this) as well as feuding with other WCW mid carders who are trying to take down the faction. I would eventually have each nWo member have its own personality that way fans get to know them individually, as oppose to as a group while slowing defecting from the faction.
Even though the Wolfpac was popular at the time, it made no sense how they came to be. Especially when Lex Lugar and Sting joined them, so I would not have the Wolfpac at all.
I'd basically try to focus on creating new stars for WCW such as Chris Jericho, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, etc etc while the old guys(Hogan, Hall, and Nash) fizzle out of the picture(though they're egos would be too big for that to happen apparentally).
Even though I was never a regular WCW watcher, I would try to make WCW seem like a complete alternative to the WWF by not trying to copy their style and come up with something refreshing and what fans can relate to. How? I don't know, but if that was the case, WCW would still be around today, or at the very least last longer than it did.
So how would you rebook the NWO?
