Post by The Peck™ Says… on Sept 30, 2009 14:50:09 GMT -5
For some reason, I can't help but get the feeling that Kurt Angle will again be apart of the WWE roster by Wrestlemania time. I believe that his contract is expiring with TNA soon, and even if he says he loves the schedule and loves the working environment in TNA you can't believe a word that Kurt says. I mean, this is the guy who wanted to take time off to get himself "right" and turned around and signed with TNA soon thereafter. He also claimed that TNA was beating WWE in the ratings too, which resulted in a good laugh.
But, anyway, back to the question at hand. Assuming that:
- since he's going through a divorce, a lighter schedule doesn't matter anymore because it was meant for him to spend time with his family - his legal woes with Rhaka Khan seem to be behind him - and that there have been intimations by Vince that he would welcome Kurt back
it's not out of the realm of possibility that he could return, especially if the ratings take a nosedive in the runup to the Royal Rumble. Kurt's attempt to break out into MMA and the movie scene seem to have sputtered, and his ego will force him to realize that the WWE is the place for him to showcase his wrestling ability, even moreso if TNA makes a greater attempt to push the AJ Styleses and Matt Morgans and Samoa Joes of the world.
So...how would you book his return?

Apart from getting a DVD of his WWE career there is no need for him to come back in JMO. And that needs to happen. The WWE has the talent they just need to showcase them more and stop having the usual suspects hogging the main event. Basically everything Jericho has said

Honestly? I'd rather just see him fall off the face of the Earth - Angle's someone I got completely sick of a long time ago.

During the night, Kurt Angle walks down the ramp, and gets thrown out by Security, for trespassing a live show.

He reappears and says he's been doing absolutely nothing for the last three years, and then makes a subtle joke about making an impact on WWE.

Its The Royal Rumble, and Yoshi Tatsu will defend his ECW title against a mystery opponent, who is is shockingly declared to be Kurt Angle. The Olympic Gold Medalist walks down to the ring, and then...
*Kick* "Wham!"
1..2..3.
Yoshi Tatsu retains in 8 seconds, Angle is never seen again.

Well, considering what Angle's been up to, he'd have a ready made feud with Punk, that's for sure.

Maybe if he converted to Buddhism or something. He's already got the haircut. I also think that even though I was a huge mark for him during his WWF/E run, that he's way too ambitious for his own good. I'm drawing a blank on how to book the actual return. Regardless of whether or not he'd be welcomed with open arms, both parties have publicly sworn each other off (Angle had his stupid "leaked" YouTube documentary where he flipped Vince off, and I believe WWE Magazine buried Angle shortly after he left). It'd be weird an awkward to have tons of ballyhoo and buildup, and I doubt the company would trust Angle enough to make the effort. Fast-forwarding past the contract signing and re-debut, I'd be really happy to see him as a mellowed-out veteran helping teach and develop new talent, but I see his own personal ambition and stubbornness causing him to lose sight of that and having him start chasing titles and main event matches again. He was supposed to be a pillar of ECW when it was relaunched and if he learned enough patience to teach the youngsters and not worry so much about being in the spotlight, he could be a really, really valuable asset to groom up-and-comers. It's also a shame about how he walked out and when. Even if he were to come back tomorrow, it doesn't seem like he'd be able to have much of a rivalry with some of his better opponents, like Michaels (who might be on his way out?) and Mysterio (wellness), and a few of his best SmackDown 6 rivals aren't even alive anymore.

Could alternatively put him in one with Edge and have Edge hang out in a parking lot with a bald cap in a series of skits throughout the show. After awhile he could find a woman and put her in the ankle lock there in the parking lot.

I'm imagine him coming in at number 28 or something at the Royal Rumble and just ankle locking everyone, Belly to belly suplexes, huge throw outs, then a massive confrontation with the last two guys...let's say CM Punk and Undertaker, Punk manages to throw out 'Taker through some shenanagins, and Angle and CM Punk trade shots/submissions before an over the top rope angle slam.
Goes on to face CM Punk at WM (Punk would win back the heavyweight title in the elimination chamber) and Angle goes over. Start of a feud, and see how it pans out from there.
I know Kurt's lack of consistensy in staying out of trouble would make this risky, but I can imagine the audience reaction in my head and it is GLORIOUS.

Here he is: Brandon Walker (Braden's brother)! (dresses him up in a generic singlet, wins 2 matches on ECW, then gets released)

I only ever really liked Angle during his initial, goofy heel phase. He can't do that any more, so I have no desire to see him return.

I would like to see it go down like this:
Around the end of December, a midcarder (I'd have it be Jack Swagger, though anyone from MVP to Sheamus to even Drew McIntyre would work) gets on a hot streak. I'm don't mean a mere winning streak either. I'm talking domination. It starts out small, with only the announcers noticing. It then builds from there.
Fast forward to, say, three weeks before Wrestlemania. In a moment of arrogance/stupidity/what have you, the wrestler in question claims that he has "beaten the best" and "wants something more." He then makes his Wrestlemania intentions known: He is issuing an open challenge to anyone. Brands, companies, retirement... it doesn't matter. When he says "anyone," he means "anyone." The buildup between that moment and Wrestlemania would be fairly standard. If the person in question is a heel, he'll spend the next three weeks squashing jobbers.
Cut to Wrestlemania. The wrestler is in the ring, ready and waiting for his opponent... but no one is coming out. He waits for a few seconds, and... still nothing. He then grabs the mic and starts with the standard "everyone is afraid of me, I rule" speak when Angle's music hits. The wrestler should have a "I just wet myself in fear" look on his face. Angle runs down, and the match begins. From that point on, the match would like those "Angle Showcase" matches that TNA seems to put on from time to time - Angle wins, but the young guy leaves looking like a million bucks.

He should attack CM Punk and accuse him of stealing his gimmick, "these people need a hero Punk, and you, you're no hero!". Punk can of course take the "you're a druggie and a stalker" route. Angle then becomes a face in his old Your Olympic Hero persona as a man who has worked hard to overcome his personal demons. Of course he'd go sadistic heel again eventually, but a face return would be awesome.

Of course he'd go sadistic heel again eventually, but a face return would be awesome. I'd prefer to see him as just a killer. No heelish attitude, no goofiness, just like his last ECW incarnation. Have him kick arse of hells/faces without any of the natural heel/face connotations, the respect people have for him alongside the want to see someone destroy Punk would make Angle face straight away anyway.
