How did they do this special effect ?

I am curious about how this special effect was done. I wonder if they actually had a wax figure made or the Undertaker, or if the casket shot was a pretape. It looks like it is possible to be a pretape with the casket, since the Undertaker in the casket looks so realistic. Also, you never see the live Undertaker and the casket Undertaker in the same shot.

It may very well have been pretaped. I think they did something like that with Diesel in 96.

It's one of those theories. Unless Undertaker actually has a twin in real life. The only difference between Mark and Maurice is that Maurice is 5'7" tall.

Im thinking they put something like a mannequin in the casket for the live audience, and even showed the pretape on the titantron as this was happening.

After watching that part 3x....I'd say his being in the casket was pretaped.

That was really him in the casket and it was still open when he was grabbed from the back of the head.....the next shot shows the casket closed all of a sudden. Also, you can't see the crowd when the shot of him in the casket happens.

Yeah, those shots are oobviously pretaped. That's half the reason Taker's on SD, because it's easier to do the creepy hoodoo stuff.

And I too remember the Diesel thing from back in the day.

Yeah after watching it once it is very easy to tell that it is pre taped. I think the Diesel segment just before Wrestlemania 12 was done better. I think that was a mannequin though. If I remember correctly the crowd was also shown a bit more on that and we got a better reaction from Diesel than we did Taker IMO also. Meaning the look on his face when 'he saw the body in the casket'

If i can hijack this thread, how do they do the buried alive stuff? You never see the guy in the grave once he's covered in dirt, does he roll into a cavity in the side or something?

Probably, since I am pretty sure that's how magicians do it. Even in the coffin, he would be in serious danger if that wasn't the case.

there is a door to a cavity in the bottom of the hole they roll/crawl into prior to dirt being dropped in. that's why the "mound of dirt" is so large.
