I'm gonna reserve judgement on the guy, but the early word is not promising. I get the feeling the guy's going to try to call matches like they're UFC fights...a bad idea.

Wait. Is it a change in the announcing or commentary? Is he doing the PBP or Color, or is he just introducing the guys and calling the winner? According to WIkipedia, he's the color guy. But that's wikipedia, so it may change in 30 seconds.

Any idiot knows that keeping Bobby Cruise as the ring announcer is a no-brainer. The only reason for him not to continue with ROH would be his own desire. I'm hoping this decision turns out well. I assume that ROH TV tapings will have live commentary with studio post-production, as opposed to the all-post produced commentary the company has used for seven years. Bringing in anybody with that experience is a good thing. But I would have loved Gus Johnson

Refresh my memory, who's Gus Johnson? I think he is the CBS guy that started calling MMA for them and was better than anyone UFC has.

Ive listened to him doing uva games and he is ok at doing the games but idk how he will be at annoucing roh He's better doing the weekly shows during football season like "ACC Football Weekly" or whatever it's called on FSN South. You can tell he has a passion for it and it really helps the quality of the shows. His PBP work isn't anything to write home about, but he isn't terrible. I honestly don't know how this will turn out. Depends on how he looks at it. If he takes this on like he does ACC Football, he'll be just fine and it'll actually give the product more credibility. But of course the other way and it could be really bad. Him with heel Prazak will be most interesting to see how much sparring he does.

Refresh my memory, who's Gus Johnson? It's almost March. You will know Gus Johnson during March Madness on CBS. Any moderately close game or above-average play or performance becomes gold in this man's hands. He is genuinely excited to be calling the game, to be there, to be sharing it with the audience. His exuberance is like that of Tony Schiavone, except he doesn't suck. He would have a Yakov Smirnov thing going, where every exciting Gus-called night of wrestling would leave YOU thinking, tonight was the greatest night in the history of our sport.

Annnnnnd this is exactly how it begins. They'll change the product soooo much so that it suck. Then WWE fans will tune in for 10 minutes, see Alex Payne and turn it off then go into all of the ROH threads claiming to have seen ROH before, calling it "overrated" and then comparing it to what he learned on the Rise and Fall of ECW DVD. And they'll shit all over everything that had happened before TV and PPV and claim that CM Punk would have sucked if he didn't spend 5745389482 years in OVW.
If I'm wrong, big deal. I'm not expecting much out of this show. I haven't really been into anything Pearce has booked. If it turns out to be this amazing thing, then awesome.

Things change in business. Sorry ROH is not a non-profit organization designed to help people that spend a little too much time on the IWC get boners from the same thing over and over.
I'm sure the guy will get some sort of job no matter what with ROH if he does get completely announcing cannd.

Pessimistic much? lol The dig at WWE fans is needless, there are many people on here who watch WWE, ROH and TNA. Insinuating someone is ignorant because they watch WWE is a bit of a low blow buddy.

For every guy like MGH who dream of, say, Danielson/Edge. There's two guys who'll say guys like Dean Malenko are "Vanilla Midgets", Junior Heavyweights are too small and are all "spot monkeys" and that if you aren't in WWE you can't possibly be any good whatsoever. All I'm trying to say is that they are changing everything to try and impress this new group of fans that will get a taste of the product. But by doing this they'll isolate the fans with ridiculous DVD release schedules. "1970s old school" booking. Schmozz finishes on DVDs. (No one buys DVDs for run ins and DQs.) And new characters for pretty much everybody. Why not give the new fans a taste of the old product that your secure fanbase already likes? If your secure fanbase already likes something, don't isolate them and lose them for the sake of new fans that may/may not buy DVDs which I still believe will be your main source of income.

The second part of your post I agree with, they shouldn't change it as drastically as they *might*. time will tell in that regard. I still don't agree that the majority of WWE fans on this board are completely ignorant of other companies and smaller talents. I think we have a really good mix of opinions on here, perhaps I'm too idealistic.

www.raycomsports.com/index.php/ACC-Broadcaster-Bios/mike-hogewood.htmlLocal Eden, NC musical group The Wampus Cats pay a visit to WFMY-TV Channel 2 (Greensboro, NC) to make an appearance. While lip-syching to their own record (a 45 RPM record, an analog precursor to the compact disc), the studio technician inadvertantly plays back the record on the wrong speed...33 RPM instead of 45 RPM. I agree with putting Sweeney on there or if you want to reach back and pull some old school ECW fans, grab Don Callis or Gertner.
