The only reason i don't like it is because Punk will win it back and become a 4 time champion. Which is lame. Soon everybody will be a 10 time world champion. I know it is a prop and they are using it as such these past couple years, but that's a pet peeve of mine. It would not hurt to give somebody an actual reign.
Punk is cool, but Undertaker > Punk

It looks like the CM Punk has heat stories may be making a comeback. I read on another board that Meltzer was on the LAW tonight saying Punk lost the title and was booked in the manner he was at the PPV due to some sort of incident on their recent tour of France. Apparantly, the next title program will be Taker v. Batista.

This is pretty ridiculous. If he was healthy enough to keep on the schedule for an extended period of time then fine. But from all I've heard, it sounds like he's unable to even go on past 10 minutes these days.
Plus it's pretty stupid that Punk's had three reigns now and yet there's nothing really noteworthy about any of them (ignoring the actual title wins).

Damn, because all we need now is TWO injury-prone or injury nursing individuals fighting for the title that neither one has really earned a shot at. I think that this is all part of a calculated effort to ruin SD! so badly that Raw will seem better by comparison.

Maybe Taker won cuz Orton won the strap? idk I like taker and I like punk. Punk should of won only by Kane coming in and ripping the door off and tombstone-ing taker, looking at the camera and laugh and shruged then walked away. See! You have nostalgia, you give Kane heat, and you have Punk winning. Or do that with Festus. I wonder if people will still complain.

What bugs me is that I know it'll be just another transitional run that serves no purpose.
Was it REALLY that difficult to do a screwjob finish? Heck, have Kane interfere and set up Taker vs. Kane 3238238 for all I care, just do SOMETHING.

Honestly I don't think it's so much Taker winning or Punk losing (and yes those are different perspecives), but more the idea that they keep jerking people around on Punk for one and for two, The ME scene is fairly poor on SD! right now. There's 1 Heel and 4 Main Event-ish Faces. Unless they elevate some folks then the Title picture on SD! will become as bad as Raw, but more injury prone.

Look, maybe WWE have some super plan for this and have found a way to cover 'Taker's obvious injuries besides making all matches involving him, even on PPV, run 10 minutes or less with very little bump taking by the Dead Man.
But if not, I can't believe they gave him the title again. He's not likely going to spike the ratings (although if he does, hooray). I don't have too much beef with 'Taker. He sells and generally can put people over even if his gimmick naturally interferes with this. His only black spot, in my mind's eye, is he destruction of pretty much the entire Nitro midcard in 2001.
But right now, I think he's too hurt. I know it's been said many times in the past few years, but I think his body is finally saying no more. The match with Michaels at 'Mania may have been the last great match 'Taker can have.

I've seen alot of Taker is stale and needs to change talk on here. Am I the only one who remembers he was a pissed off biker a few years back and everyone whined for him to be the "Deadman" again? And while I don't see much point in him winning the title at a more or less nothing PPV it still beats the Orton/Cena/HHH revolving door on Raw.

And while I don't see much point in him winning the title at a more or less nothing PPV it still beats the Orton/Cena/HHH revolving door on Raw. In fairness, he has been the Deadman again for almost six years now. So...it isnt surprising for people to say he has gotten stale. What used to be great about the Undertaker is his character evolved over the years. It never regressed. Yet at this point he is stuck in a rut with no signs of change. Mostly what I am seeing here isn't so much that Taker is stale though. That is a good complaint, but to me the most legitimate concern is he simply cannot do what he used to do in the ring. Hes on his last legs and has been mostly painful to watch since his return. Perhaps he could work through the injuries and heal up and return to form, but giving him the WHC will not facilitate that. In the shape he is now, I cannot see Undertaker being able to give up the quality matches a champ should be providing. Beyond that, I am, as a fan of his, concerned for his health.

Smackdown! is in a bad place right now. Their absolute top heel star is currently being used to elevate one midcard belt, having spent the previous three months elevating another one. Their three most established babyface stars are unreliable because of injury and/or drug issues. And the other top two stars were lost to injury and free agency earlier this year. If no one of Taker, Batista, Rey, or Jericho can take the belt from Punk, then WWE has to push either Morrison, Finlay or R-Truth to the main event. Fat chance of that.
I personally would rather have seen a lengthy Punk reign. But maybe WWE is terrified of alienating their young audience by keeping the bad guy on top. The face's chase certainly sells better than his reign (see Cena's last 3 weeks of reign vs. months of pursuit). But the heel reigning needs to be in a position to make all the challengers into draws. WWE doesn't trust Punk to be That Guy yet. If they don't trust the champ to be the champ, then don't give it to him. Give it to Jericho instead. Give the World Title to Jericho and Everything Will Be Okay.

He's not even fully fit. No idea why he was given the title. Probably for his upcoming Rest In Peace Tour. I don't see him holding onto it for very long.

Hopefully he'll drop the title to Jericho and have Jericho going into wrestlemania as WHC and defend it against Edge.

Taker i9s very much like Hogan was in late 90's in WWE right now (as apposed to WCW). He is stale and old unfortunately and the business is moving on away from Taker. His character is completely out of place in todays WWE (and has bee most of the time after WM 20). WWE is desperate for buy rates and attendance to go up therefore gave the belt back to a legend which everyone a fan of wrestling or not recognizes butt that;s not what they need to be doing. Taker is keeping the younger talent down and being selfish and needs to take a step down and take at least a less active role or perhaps a backstage role in WWE. Taker is on e of the problems in no stars being made at the moment (no to the level which we had in the late 80;s and late 90's anyway). He is very much like Hogan was on WCW however he is arguably not quite as bad Mania should be is last match.

Punk is cool, but Undertaker > Punk It takes any and all prestige away from a championship when wrestlers are just racking up the number of titles reigns they have. Today the belts are meaningless as WWE have made them that way. That's another and one of the biggest problems with WWE at the moment and it will take some time if they try to give the titles the legitimacy they once seemed to have back.

I've been a fan of Undertaker since I started watching wrestling as a 6 year old, 15 years ago. However, I did not like how Taker won the belt tonight. He looks very tender inside the ring, and it seems like he rushed himself back into the ring. That, along with his schedule of wrestling once every month on SD doesn't seem like he's a great choice for a champion. Undertaker is over, he doesn't need the belt. His character isn't meant to be a champion. I was more interested in a CM Punk title reign.

I respect him, he's good in the ring, and has had probably one of the greatest careers of all time, because he's always been at the top. But yeah, i am getting tired of him. I fear that if he keeps going, he'll end up pulling a Flair on us and we'll begin groaning at the sight of him He's had a great career, but it needs to end soon before he tarnishes it.

i don't think he should have gotten the belt, though i must also say i'm one of those who hates the PPV-ly exchange of any of the titles back and forth all the time. Orton loses to cena only to get it back a month later? hat's the point. reminds me of Batista beating Jericho for the belt only to lose it that same week in a cage match only to have jericho cough it up shortly after that (i forget to who- cena?). Punk and Hardy exchanged it a few times now Taker gets it after not even a 2 month Punk reign?
Taker doesn;t really need the belt except as a feel-good Wrestlemania moment and he's already done that a few times already now so even that has lost it's luster. on the other hand when he does get the belt he never holds it for long so i don;t expect this to be different. i wouldn;t be surprised to see him lose it this week on Smackdown for another hot shot title run for someone else. probably Batista since it's been almost a month now without a Batista world title shot.
maybe he's planning to try to hang on til the next Wrestlemania but i can;t see him continuing after that. seems like he needs six to eight month breaks for every month or two of activity these days and he's still under 100%.
kinda reminds me of Flair in his last half dozen years. spirit is willing but the flesh doesn't have it any more.

I can't really say a lot of bad things about him after giving us the match of the year at WrestleMania 25.
However, I think that he should take the HBK approach and just stay away from the title picture. Or..if in the title picture...loose. I really don't see the point in him being the champion, especially given his current physical state.
I don't usually rant like this..ever..but this 'Taker/Punk fued..I really had high hopes for it. However, the booking made Punk look like garbage.
My personal viewpoint is that if you're someone with a limited work schedule, you shouldn't be representing the company as one of the world champions.

I think people are missing a larger point about all this: Edge.
The Undertaker came back much sooner than he planned to becuase Edge got hurt. Edge doesn't get hurt, this thread doesn't happen becuase Taker wouldn't be champ now.
