Could this be a Taker Retirement Tour?

Taker is clearly not fit and what does putting the title on him accomplish? Every time Taker comes back he gets the title. People bitch about HHH and the title but Taker gets it for just showing up. He's hurting the product now and needs to retire and let someone else take a main event spot. People crticise HHH for hogging the main event but he's stepped away from it in recent months and he can still go.

I think people are missing a larger point about all this: Edge. The Undertaker came back much sooner than he planned to becuase Edge got hurt. Edge doesn't get hurt, this thread doesn't happen becuase Taker wouldn't be champ now. I don't think he's back because Edge got hurt as much as he's back because Jeff Hardy left.

Undertaker has had an amazing career, and he's put on some of his best matches in the last few years, and I will always be a fan of him. However, he should not be getting the title at this point, and he should not be the focal point of the show. He should be used in a very limited capacity until WM 26 when he should retire.
The WWE did have an option too. They could have run Punk vs Matt Hardy for a while. Matt may not be in superb shape thanks to his abdominal surgery, but he's still better than Taker at the moment. I wouldn't have minded seeing them work a PPV or two.

That's what's really bugging me too. The 'E could have easily got a feud out of Punk/Matt from summerslam until now without rushing Taker back. Star Power still comes to Smackdown in the form of Batista. Punk could have feuded with Rey or Batista from now unti lthe end of the year.
Then Taker could have come back to feud with Punk, giving him an added four months to his rehab schedule.

It's obvious he's not 100%. I'd be surprised if he's 60% right now. Rey/Edge/Hardy all going down forced them to bring him back, and now his matches and programs are suffering for it. What the hell is this storyline all about now? "Someone" was so dead set on Taker not being Champion that they formulated this screw job conspiracy ... only to let Punk get in HIAC and defeated. W...Wha? Now instead of the hottest heel going, a 60%, 40+ Undertaker is your World Champion. Someone would have to beat me over the head with a brick to get that one.

It just shows the entire 'conspiracy' concept was not an attempt to create an interesting angle but just an idiotic way to kill three weeks of TV time before making the title switch. Pathetic.

Presumably because they needed a new face after Hardy left and they are entering Bunker Mode (Push established product for ratings) in an attempt to combat the rising tide of MMA. They have yet to enter Panic Mode (throw random stuff at the wall and see what works). You're right. It's all too obvious Taker is on his last legs and is too banged up to offer high quality matches anymore. At this point, I would have preferred Punk/Bats.

I'm guessing Undertaker was only given the World Title because the European Tour is coming up. Thats the only reason why he's got it I believe.
CM Punk, is this guy the next Edge? Never destined to have a long title reign?

Its supposed to be his 'Rest In Peace' Tour, implying that its his last. Maybe. I don't know I'm probably wrong but thats the only reason I could think of.

I agree with most people here, he doesn't need the strap. (definitely not right now anyway) But it's probably going to be his last title reign ever and it probably won't last that long anyway so whatever.

1. A World Heavyweight Championship match that goes 10:40 is BULLs*** 2. A Hell in a Cell match that goes 10:40 is not acceptable 3. Undertaker winning the title in 10:40 seconds after all of this build up is completely retarded. Did I mention that this match went 10:40 Minutes? Looks like we're going to see the return of a straight-edge Samoan...

Considering all of the work he's had done to his legs and knees, I'm surprised he gets out there as quick as he does. It should only be a few more months before he retires. It's his last hurrah. The druids will be gone soon.

Only CM Punk could make the internet turn on the friggin' Undertaker. I've never liked him. This isn't some IWC thing, I really just don't like Undertaker. I can't stand it when he gets put over anyone in title matches. sooo.....you hated seeing him and Flair cheat Hogan out of the belt in 1991? And I suppose Austin should have beat him in 1997 as well.... I'm tired of Taker. But I still love some of the stuff he's done.

Kayfabe wise, CM Punk going clean over Taker in "Taker's Match" makes no sense.
I know Taker doesn't win often in HIAC, but they needed to make the title change in order to not completely kill Taker's credibility. (Even with weapons and the sort.)
As for the Matt Hardy thing somebody mentioned, it's not a bad idea but with the way they've booked Hardy since WM, it's hard to take him as a legitimate main event contender, especially straight back from injury.

I don't mind Taker as the Champion, but it shouldn't have been tonight. Punk could've held it longer. And it isn't just mindless PUSH PUNK TO THE MOON stuff, Taker's Title win would have meant more with a better chase and the whole thing could've meant more than it did. But he just came back, then bam, Title right away. Silly. I have a feeling the title change isn't about UT, and it isn't about Punk either. It's about advancing the "Vince is MAD at Teddy Long" storyline, and we're going to see Vince drop the hammer on Teddy for letting Punk lose the title, ultimately leading to Vickie getting her role as SD GM back, when this angle comes to a close. But then we're right back where we were last year with heel Vickie out to screw the Undertaker, but this time she's Vince's puppet? Lame.

Taker has been dominating the damn company for the better part of the last 20 years. He's got credibility to spare, for cryin' out loud! If losing to Vlad Kozlov in about 4 minutes on Smackdown didn't kill his credibility, Punk doing something devious to beat him inside the Cell certainly wouldn't.
