This is the closest thing I've seen to a "comeback" story of sorts in wrestling-does anyone know if he was scheduled to win the title originally? They put so much into this.

Yeah but in pretty much every other match both before and after Warrior obliterated him which kind of takes away from that.
Still its interesting to think how it would have gone if they had decided to have Rude instead of Slaughter as place holder champ for Hogan in WM7. Rude probably deserved it more.

Rude probably deserved it more. Well Rude did beat Ultimate Warrior for the Intercontinental Championship at Wrestlemania V(with Heenan cheating of course), so he had(and used) that to brag about. I don't know how Rude would be as a World Champion. He had talent and charisma, but he always seemed like a mid-card guy who occassionally tastes the main event.

Don Frye could have been Rick Rude's stunt double.

as I watch these I was kinda hoping Rude would've beat the Warrior at Summerslam I mean he showed alot of determination and he had what it took to hold the title however it wasn't meant to be, Rude would have a short feud with The Big Bossman until his contract was up then it was off to WCW

Outside of Rude and Slaughter did Warrior ever get pinned by anyone else on WWF tv/ppv?
I know he lost to Andre at a house show and to a few others here and there but to my knowledge he only lost twice on tv. Were there any others? Maybe early in his career for WWF

I don't think anyone was buying Rude as a legit threat to Warrior, so they played up the fact that he beat UW in the past and hyped up these vignettes. I highly doubt they were going to have Warrior drop the belt a few months after winning it, especially to Rude.

There is an interesting story in Bret Harts book where he says that Rude and Warrior were having a match and Warrior potatoed him. So Rude told him if he did that again he would tear his head off and that Warrior behaved very well after that. Interesting also on the Warrior DVD with all the speakers (except a in charachter Lombardi) pretty much saying Rude worked his butt off trying to make the matches look good.

Actually, from what I saw in the DVD, Steve Lombardi seemed like the only one who had an unbias and honest opinon on The Warrior. Everybody bashed him like they were told to.

You both might be talking about the match on CV's Mega Matches. Savage tries using his sneak attack maneuver like he did during the 91 Rumble ppv, hiding behind the guardrail for The Warrior. Sherri gets stripped at one point and Warrior beats her senseless. For years I thought Rude quit after Summerslam. Until I got ahold of some wwf stuff from a dealer and was suprised to see he actually stuck around till like a week before Survivor Series. Why in the hell did the guy stick around after SS??? Nobody took him seriously and they pushed him to the moon in those vigenettes but Warrior beats him. There was like nothing left for him to do. Usually this is why guys would dissapear after their last big ppv, Warrior beats him and practically within a week he is feuding with Bossman and has nothing to say about the Warrior. Then he leaves the company under one of the gayest kayfabe reasons of all. Jack Tunney suspends him indefinatley for making fun of the Bossmans Mother.

All it would've taken was Bobby Heenan ripping on The Ravishing One for not bringing home the WWE championship.

No I actually saw this one live and in person at Vets Auditorium in Des Moines. The Coliseum Video one is essentially the same match, but its from MSG I believe.
