What age did u realise that ur a smark and joined the IWC revolution. I realised when I was 15 years old, my sister still thinks that I am a mark and finds wrestling fans very kiddish. I am 24 now and believe me, wrestling was much more fun when I was a mark....being a smark took a lot of appeal away from wrestling. ;D

I've been reading dirt sheets since the late-80's. While kids my age were reading Newberry Medal winners Maniac Magee and Shiloh, I was waiting with baited breath as to whether or not Vince was really going to go with a Zeus/Hulk Hogan Wrestlemania VI main event in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. I have no qualms admiting I'm a smark elitist and have stated numerous times how marks have sucked the life out of the mainstream scene. Thank god for puroseu, lucha libre and ROH though!

I used to view myself as a smark, but I realized that that term is an oxymoron, and actually doesn't exist. You can't be a mark for something, and then smart to it at the same time, it's not possible. I prefer internet mark, or mark on the internet.
Smart is the last thing I want to call myself or others, when there's a good chance we could be easily manipulated by many things that come up, making us not really smart at all.
But then again, I also refer to Wrestling Journalists as Marks with Contacts. The only wrestling journalists to me are Bill Apter, Keith Elliot Greenberg, and so forth.

No pun intended.

I don;t view myself as a smark. I was a mark up until about the age of 13 though and then stated to find out more about backstage and how the business really works./ Being a mark is far better IMO more simpler but being a 'smark' is not without it's pleasures like understanding how the business works and what goes on behind the scenes is very entertaining. I enjoy watching wrestling a lot and enjoy talking on the net about it and it;'s various subjects. It;'s the best form of entertainment and 'sport' there is.

I think the moment I was surfing CBS's sportsline wrestling, and saw Wrestlecrap. I think that was back in 2000.
Yeah wrestlecrap was my intro to smarkiness, and man was RD funny back then.

I really wouldn't call myself a smark either, just someone with an interest in wrestling that goes beyond TV. However, the second I actually bothered about stumbling onto this website was when my IWC card got stamped. Before this, I would go to the observer website and read Meltzer's stuff (right before the merger and them withholding a crapload of info) and would occasionally venture over to the mess of adverts that is 1wrestling.com. Honestly, this website kept my interest in wrestling afloat, because due to living in different places and lack of time, wrestling had gone from must see tv to "LOL, my girlfriend thinks Vince really died, let me tell here that crap aint real". Hell, I didn't even know about the Benoit thing until I came here.

Both my older brothers were in with tape traders at UK shows when I was born, so I grew up a 'smart' fan, knowing some insider/backstage stuff. To me it's always been about storytelling, psychology and performance, because that's what I was 'raised' on.

Doesn't realizing you're a smark mean you aren't one? I always thought of a smark as someone who thinks they know everything there it to know behind the scenes, but still buys in and doesn't realize it. For instance, the guy booing Kevin Nash louder than anyone in the arena, but he's not booing him because he just assaulted the referee, he's booing him because rajah.com reported last week he booked himself in a squash over "Favorite Workrate Star X." Maybe I've got my internet terms mixed up though.

I Don't view myself as a Smark I Just can't get enough Wrestling so I go to the Internet This. I'm not an anti-smark but I try my best to avoid spoilers at all cost and really I tend to have a very patient view on wrestling besides towards Cena but I've hated Cena since his heel run, also work rate doesn't matter to me as long as I'm entertained.

Yeah, that's about right for me. Growing up I believed that wrestling was staged to an extent. I didn't know about dirtsheets(and didn't know until last year), but I figured that if it was really legit, then everyone involved would either be in the hospital, in jail, or dead. However, I used to think that the outcomes were based on performance rather than what the bookers decided. I also thought that Japanese pro wrestling was a legit competition and I used to wish that the WWE and WCW would do the same style of wrestling I saw in New Japan and All Japan, but with the same storylines(ex. WWF 2000). I didn't have tapes to watch, but one of the good things of having a fast connection (56K in 1998) was that if you knew where to look, you could download matches and watch them on the computer. So that's how I kept up with guys like Keji Mutoh and KENTA.

When I realised I'd rather read about wrestling than watch it, thankfully the IWC buzz prompted me to watch TNA and ROH on the old wrestling channel and they helped me find my smile.

After the 90,000th time I heard someoen say "You know UNdertaket's brother really is Kane?" or "The real Ultimate Warrior dided from Steroids so they got a new one" I couldn't let these things stand. I wanted to know the truth at all times damn it! It's too bad you can't get the truth online.

When I started to find the(alleged) politics going on behind the scenes more interesting than what's happening inside the ring a good deal of the time.
