Hello Crappers,
It has come to my attention that RoH has their first television show on March 21st and I thought that might be the right time to get a look at this promotion.
From JD Dunn's RoH reviews I always get the vibe that this might be a good alternative to WWE and TNA but I am the kind of person that needs a kickstart (or a kick in the butt to start) to begin something new and I think the getting of TV time for ROH is certainly a good start.
I have a few questions, however:
-Can RoH be compared to the original ECW during the Monday Night wars, i.e. can it be called the No. 3 wrestling promotion in North America?
-The shows that Dunn reviewed: aside from those that he marked as PPVs, what are those: Video or DVD on Demand shows, normal RoH shows or what?
Besides, the RoH fans have now carte blanche to sell me on their promotion and it is so good. Sell away ;D!

1.Yes, most likely it will last longer though.
2.They make DVD's of every single show, some are out of stock though.

RoH is an indy like ECW was during the monday night wars. They have great wrestling and most of the RoH homegrown stars are either picked by WWE or TNA.

Cabana vs. Delirious from FYF: Finale is probably one of the funniest matches in history.

I always wondered Is there any good Comedy in ROH? I Know they have great wrestling but I Just hate it when everything always serious I think a lack of comedy is one of ROH's bigger weaknesses right now, but they're not devoid of it. Some of the undercard acts are lighthearted, like Rhett Titus' sleazy ladies' man gimmick, or Grizzly Redwood, the littlest lumberjack. There's also Steen and Generico, who can do both serious and funny. Chris Hero and Delirious are both great at comedy, but their current characters are more serious so we don't see much funny from them right now.

All of my interest in Chris Hero and Delirious is based off of how funny I think Chris Hero and Delirious are.
Currently, they are both being super serious business, meaning I have no use for them.

Ok, I can attempt my best to give you an intro to the world of ROH. Other posters can fill in the holes for me if they choose to...
Let's start with Nigel Mcguinness, the ROH World Champion. He's held the title for the last 15 months, and has turned heel in the process of retaining it. While not the best wrestler in ROH, he has his methods of holding onto the title, and a deadly Jawbreaker Lariat to help him do so. Lately, however, the kryptonite to his title reign has been...
Tyler Black. He is a former member of the Age of the Fall stable, pegged by many fans as the next world champ, and puts on damn good matches considering he's freaking 22. He had a World Title match back in March 08 (the Take No Prisoners show) where he took EVERYTHING Nigel had to dish out and only lost after taking multiple lariat variations and being forced to submit. He's also had great matches with Bryan Danielson, Austin Aries, and other upper-echelon members of the ROH roster. The thorn in his side is the combination of....
Jimmy Jacobs, leader of Age of the Fall, and Austin Aries. These two have a peculiar relationship, especially since they spent most of 2008 attempting to kill each other. Jimmy had a girlfriend named Lacey, who he was madly in love with. After announcing that "Love saves nothing" and forming AotF, he was hellbent on starting a social revolution and using ROH to do it. To try to get Aries to join his group, he sent Lacey to seduce him, and failed, ultimately losing her to Aries. After spending most of 2008 trying to maim each other, they joined forces at Final Battle 2008 and gave Tyler Black a beatdown. Eversince, the two have had a symbiotic relationship, interfering in each other's matches, going after Tyler Black, etc...
Another main event player is Bryan Danielson, aka The Best In The World. Which he is, definitely the best technical wrestler in the world, and the master of Cattle Mutilation (a more painful version of the Rings of Saturn) and kicking your snorking head in.
ROH also has a packed undercard with Brent Albright, Necro Butcher (of "The Wrestler" fame), Erick Stevens, Chris Hero, Roderick Strong, Claudio Castagnoli, and most of the best workers in the American Indy scene. The tag team division is given almost the same gravitas as the ROH World Title and is always one of the highlights of the card. The current champs, Kevin Steen and El Generico form the perfect big man/ small man dichotomy, and other teams such as the American Wolves (think a newer version of the British Bulldogs) and the Briscoe brothers always bring the fight in their matches.
Sorry if this was longwinded, my journalistic urges took over.

This is video is a good reminder that I miss Rocky Romero on the scene. Also a good reminder that I like ROH ... a lot.

Dave Lagana will be helping to write the TV shows. He was a creative writer for WWE until 2008, mostly working on Smackdown. He was head writer for Smackdown from 2003-2006 and head writer for ECW from Heyman's departure until his release in January 2008. He's also credited with creating the Jamie Noble red neck character from 2002.
So whether that adds any credibility to what ROH are hoping to achieve on HDNet might depend on what you liked or disliked about the areas of WWE's creative process he had most influence on.

Another thing to think about is that the owner, Cary Silkin, is not only a wrestling fan himself, but he's a wrestling fan who owns a wrestling company and knows what the hell he's doing. Barring the employment of Adam Pearce to booker, there haven't really been very many complaints against him. He's hell-bent on making sure that the wrestling comes first, whereas on WWE and TNA, the microphone is the most important thing.

Cary Silkin did an interview last week with Online World of Wrestling's podcast, where he said Lagana is not a part of the company. He was there at the tapings to sort of give guidance, but he's not an employee and isn't writing the tv show.

Well, ROH is similar to ECW in the sense that their talent is the hot property that the other two companies are after. I don't think they've made the kind of sweeping change to the way the other companies do business the way ECW did, at least not yet.
Look at who WWE and TNA have now, or have had recently
WWE: CM Punk Evan Bourne/Matt Sydal Scotty Goldman/Colt Cabana Paul London Brian Kendrick Jamie Noble/James Gibson Mickie James/Alexis Laree Kaval/Low Ki Jimmy Wang Yang
TNA Samoa Joe AJ Styles Homicide Christopher Daniels Jay Lethal Jimmy Rave (In addition, the TNA/ROH talent exchange during 2002-2004 meant that many wrestlers already signed to TNA went and worked at ROH)
