I'm currently re-watching RAW. During the Miz/Jannetty match, I realized that they have a pretty good built-in storyline for a match between Marty Jannetty & Shawn Michaels.
Jannetty could just lose it one day, attack HBK, and say that he's tired of being known simply as "The Jannetty." He's tired of being a laughing stock. He's tired of being a joke. He busted his ass for years as apart of the Rockers, but nobody ever gives him the respect he deserves. They only remember HBK. He's the only one people talk about while he was left to twist in the wind. While Shawn turned his life around and let go of the vices he had, Jannetty started picking them up. It ruined his life and career. He wants absolution. From there, he challenges HBK to a match, maybe at Wrestlemania, where Jannetty vows to undo "Mr. Wrestlemania" on his grand stage. Jannetty will defeat HBK and prove to the world that he could be Mr. Wrestlemania and deserves every bit of adulation & respect that HBK gets.
As for the match itself, it could be pretty good. Jannetty still looks to be in good shape, and HBK is HBK. The match will be 3 stars by default, only going up in quality. For us "old-timers" that were around during the days of the Rockers and have watched Jannetty's career come undone, it would be a great story to see unfold.

Mehhh. First off i wouldn't have it at WM (HBK's got like, 2 left, lets make em count), and maybe if this was like 4/5 yrs ago when Janetty faced Angle and could still clearly go id support it. He looks like he's pretty done now, and at his age, etc, its understandable.

Here's the way I figure HBK's last 2 Wrestlemanias:
1. Has to be Marty Jannetty. That's how he started his WWE career. 2. Triple H. Goes without saying.
They do that and HBK's WWE career come full circle. It began with Jannetty and ends with Triple H.

I'd rather he face CM Punk or John Morrison than either Jannetty or HHH. The way HBK usually loses at WM, and the way they seem desperate to build new guys, it wouldn't surprise me if he puts over one of these guys at 26. If Jannetty proved to me he could still go to the caliber of booking him in a WM i'd be alright with it.

I remember being really impressed with his match against Kurt Angle, I think it was? He didn't seem to bad last night either apart from being out of shape and that atrocious ring gear I'd love to see a match between him and Shawn, but only on a Raw or a minor PPV at most. I'd like to see HBK have a spectacular match with a younger feller this year at WM.

I was a lil let down with Jannety this last time, he was in a lot better shape his last run, and his ring gear looked like random left over crap from the back or something.

What we need to do is have a dirtsheet segment where some how Jannetty puts Shawn through a window

Jannetty looked really old last night. That made me sad.
His last showing was pretty good... but last night, looked like he was struggling to do anything in the ring.
It also looked like he was extra hyper for some reason.

I'd prefer Jannetty form a heel stable of wrestlers bitter that their partners have gone on to greater fame: Curt Hawkins, Joey Mercury, Charlie Haas, etc

It sounds like a great idea. It can also be pointed out that Jannetty was the star when the Rockers were formed. He was already a singles star when he took Shawn under his wing.

A 'you stole my life' storyline, juxtapositioned with the similar Miz/Morrison program, might work rather well if done correctly.

This definitely isn't a Wrestlemania-worthy idea. HBK is a legend in the twilight of his career. No way do you waste any of the few Mania's he likely has left on an over-the-hill career wash-out.
With that said, being an old school (late 80s) fan, I'd be perfectly fine with this storyline and even a match-up at a minor PPV. I'd probably try and make it a subplot for a feud with a more relevant current WWE superstar though, like say, The Miz. Have Miz use Jannetty as a pawn, saying he relates to him (a blatant lie) and tell him how HBK held him back, etc. This would of course evntually lead to a big feud between Miz and HBK that would hopefully elevate Miz to the next level.

Love your idea. I also think a Miz VS HBK match at the next Wrestlemania, with a Jannetty subplot, would be AWESOME!

That idea is so awesome that the WWE is not going to use it. However, it would be terrible to see the match on a minor PPV, if the match is actually great. Maybe not Wrestlemania, but I would so defintely a Summerslam match would be nice. I'm not so sure Jannetty is up to it either; I still have memories have the Kurt Angle vs. Marty Jannetty match, but that match happen a couple of years ago. Look at Kurt Angle. Look at Marty Jannetty. Can they still pull off that match? Maybe, but it would take a lot more effort now than it before. However, I do agree that the twilight of Shawn Michaels career needs to involve: 1. Marty Jannetty: The Beginning (Fued should end at Summerslam or Survivor Series?) 2. Triple H: The Highlight (Fued should end at the Royal Rumble?) 3. John Morrison: The Future (Fued should at Wrestlemania)

Jannetty could never stay clean for that long. Sadly enough.

For some reason, I think Jannetty would kick ass on ECW as a variation on Tommy Dreamer, the veteran jobber for the new blood.
