I was watching my "History of NWO" dvd last night and while watching the Bash At The Beach of 1996 I noticed a couple interesting things I hadn't noticed before.......
1. I keep wondering what the hell was up with the referee and why not one person seemed to make any sort of comments about his really crappy officiating job.......It almost seems like the Ref was working for the NWO, because during the entire match he keeps Savage from illegally coming in to help Sting--this would all be fine except that in one part of the match Hall and Nash seem to do it as well while the Ref has his back turned.....his solution? he asks them if they tagged and they seemed to say "Yeah, we tagged man!" and that's good enough for him as he just says "oh, well okay" and leaves it at that.
Uh...hello...Ref...you DO know that those are the bad guys right?
2. The other thing I noticed is that WCW didn't like the fans bringing just any kind of sign......there's this moment while Hogan is giving his speech at the end of the match that I find absolutely hilarious. As Hogan is blabbering away you can see this guy in the crowd wearing an ECW t-shirt and acting all excited, he then proceeds to hold up a sign. The sign must have pissed off one of the WCW higher-up's because about thirty seconds later this WCW security guy storms over and rips the sign of of ECW-guy's hands, the security officer then crumples said sign up and marches away with it.

That happens in just about every tag match with heels/faces. Heels do the underhanded deeds and get away with it, while faces try to do it, but the ref impedes their progress.
And I don't think it's exclusive to WCW to have someone take away a sign that they don't want on the air. Probably it was some smarky sign, if the guy was wearing a ECW shirt.

The heels and faces done that all the time back in the 80's and 90's (and before) and your probably correct about the guy and the sign.

God Rest His Sole, but in my personal opinion Randy Pee Wee Anderson seemed like he never knew what he was doing while refereeing a WCW match
If you noticed security couldn't do anything to control that crowd, to bad they didn't have Big Jimmy like WWE has now, so that guy must've grab it just to look like he is doing something

Okay so they do it all the time, but what I still can't understand was why the commentating team didn't mention anything about it....these were the same folks after all who demanded that the NWO bring out their 3rd guy when WCW had the upper-hand.......

The only thing I didn't like about Bash at the Beach 1996 was when Hogan was coming down, Bobby Heenan kept saying, "Who's side is he on!?" I know that many anticipated he would be on WCW's side, but I think Heenan suggesting over and over again that Hogan could be the third man took away some of the surprise. It would have been slightly more shocking had Heenan assumed like the others that Hogan was going to be on the WCW team. Does anyone else feel this way or was that just me?

Several on this board have said this, but honestly the majority didn't or just thought it was Heenan just being Heenan as he's always said things like that about Hogan in kayfabe. Just the wrong time that's all as he honestly didn't know Hogan was turning heel that night. Still it didn't do anything badly for the heel turn as it went off without a hitch.

For those of us that watched it live when it happened, we didn't have it ruined at all. I probably sat there as a 10 year old kid going "Stupid Heenan and him always hating Hogan". Hell, when I go back it and watch it 13 years later... it adds realism and continuity. I can remember watching that match still and my reaction of just being 100% completely appalled that Hogan had turned on WCW. I was 10. I remember being incredibly pissed off that night. So yeah, if you watch it live and in the moment as a fan of WCW where Heenan still rags on Hogan... you can definitely see it.

So as not to spoil9 the match or Hogans heel turn at Bash At The Beach. Event the announce team didn;t get told that Hogan was going to turn face that night and align himself with Nash and Hall. Bobby Heanan (keyfabe) never liked or trusted Hogan. This would be a natural reaction from his character not to trust Hogan coming into the match. If he didn;t say something some of the fans probably would have wonderd why. Given the Heanan character (all throughout the 80's and 90's) had a problem with Hogan.; Constantly telling fans he was not to be trusteed and he was a lowlife. This was the main reason Andre turned on Hogan with 'help' from Heanan. It was incredibly continuity on WCW (and WWF) behalf with the characters (one of the best between the companies of all time). It wouldn't have ruined it if you watched the PPV live. No one was expecting the heel turn from Hogan. It's only watching the PPV back now after the heel turn it looks like it may have ruined it. Watching at the time after Heanan said the comment it just looked and sounded like classic Bobby Heanan comment in not trusting Hogan.

I was there!
I was like 8 or 9 at the time and when the crowd started throwing stuff I got nailed in the back of the head with a hot dog bun.

The turn started the most successful run in WCW history and inspired the biggest boom the business has ever seen, so I don't think Bobby hurt it too much.
