Wow, I didn't realize there were that many changes in only one year. There's been over 20 world title reins in the past year and the longest was only two and a half months. This is worse than the attitude era.

Way too much.
It's so stupid. Why can't WWE grasp the concept of middle ground? It's either giving someone a pair of nearly year long runs, or flipping the belt every month. They don't seem to realize there it's a perfectly acceptable in between. Doesn't just apply for the title changes either. They fall in one rut with one extreme or the other with another.

I knew there were a lot of title changes, but that's just f***ing ridiculous.

They've completely shit on the concept. World Title changes were supposed to be special. This is why they're having a hard time drawing. The build behind a long term champion, and the what if when the title is defended.
I've put them over for it before, but ROH does it perfectly. They have one singles and one tag, both are in almost equal standing, and rarely do the titles change hands. With the ROH belt, when Jerry Lynn beat Nigel, it was this epic moment in time, and even when Tyler Black pinned Lynn in New York, the crowd was legitimately shocked. ROH knows how to save their title changes for times where it's important.
The only belts that haven't been passed around much are the US and ECW Championship (which the latter didn't even get on the pay per view).
What is WWE doing?

Me thinks they are doing it to spice up PPV buyrates. After all, you don't want to miss a world title change hands!
Problem is, they've done them so often, at this point nobody cares anymore.

The ECW Championship:
*Matt Hardy won a 5-Man Scramble at Unforgiven on September 7th *Jack Swagger defeated Hardy at Royal Rumble on ECW on January 12th *Christian defeated Swagger at Backlash on April 26th *Tommy Dreamer won a Triple Threat at Extreme Rules on June 7th *Christian defeated Dreamer at Night of Champions on July 26th
Grand Total: 4 champions, 5 reigns
---
ECW is the best booked "world" championship that the company has got right now, in my opinion.

That's eleven title reigns in 365 days. To put that into just a little bit of perspective, it took 9,048 days (24 years, 282 days) to get to the eleventh title reign in the entire history of that same belt (Andre the Giant, for you fellow trivia geeks). How about the World Heavyweight Title? Again, eleven reigns in one year. It took 1,226 days (three years, 130 days) to get to eleven total reigns for the current-era World Heavyweight Championship (from when Triple H was awarded the belt in 2002).

The worst part is it is pretty much all the same people. The titles just seems to go back and forth at nearly every ppv. What makes the title mean something isn't just holding the belt and defeating someone for it, but actually having sucessful title defenses, which obviously doesn't happen much anymore. Instead of Orton beating Cena at one ppv and then losing it back at the next, maybe he could defend it against someone else or have a tag match, something different. I do like that they seem to be building between Kofi and Orton, but I think they could have done that before losing the belt. Orton easily could have faced Mark Henry, Kofi, Shawn Micheals, MVP and even HHH again before losing the belt back to Cena. As far as Smackdown goes, I have no idea why Undertaker is champion, unless he doesn't have much longer.

Basically, if either belt changes hands between now and December 31st, both titles will have broken the 1999 record of most title changes for the main belts. I wonder if they were gunning for that.

Well to play Devils Advocate here but if someone wins any of the world titles for the first time in their career, WWE and the fans would treat it as a big deal. It was a special moment when Jeff Hardy finally won the WWE Championship last year and a surreal fresh moment when Punk won the WHC last year. I'm sure if someone like MVP, Kingston, Swagger, Morrison or guys who haven't won it in years like Kane or HBK finally wins the title, the pop would be huge and everyone will experience a excited surreal moment more then Cena/HHH/Batista/Orton recent title wins.

So I assume there will be absolutely zero complaints if John Cena holds onto that title for several months now? Seriously, I reckon he's probably going to take it all the way up to the next Wrestlemania...but we'll see I guess.

You wanted to watch the PPV every month just so see if that was the one where they are finally defeated for the belt and the reigns actually meant something.
