Agreed. The heel turn was completely telegraphed, but tossing him through the window was out of the blue and just absolutely jaw-dropping.

In addition to being a great heel turn, this segment continues to prove that Monsoon and Heenan are the greatest commentary team of all time.

I love how Heenen goes from saying that they need each other one second, to the "I knew he was going to do that!" stance instantly. FYI, I totally had that issue of WWF magazine... I remember reading that article in the backseat on a family trip.

This moment scared me more than anything since I started watching wrestling (close call would be Jake's snake biting Savage). I couldn't believe Shawn threw Marty through a window...and all that blood! Seriously freaky.

Man, what a segment. "Jannetty tried to dive through the window!" He was running from Shawn Michaels.

come to think of it, the WWF did a lot of surprising edgy things around that time. Michaels throwing Jannety through the window, Robert slapping Liz and then Damien biting Savage, UT trapping Warrior in a casket, the whole Liz/Flair affair. Shame they tamed things down soon after....93, 94, 95 was just too squeeky clean.

I'd say that time period was just as edgy (if not edgier) than the Attitude Era.

That was the first time I ever saw a guy blade also, the blood really made it for me.

And how to balance angles like those listed above with great wrestling such as Hart vs Hennig

I think had Marty kept his demons under control he would have had a great career. As good as HBK probably not but definitely upper mid card

I was completely shocked as a kid. But know when I watch it. all I can see is that trangle piece of glass just dangling over marty waiting to fall.

I will never forget watching this for the 1st time as a kid. I remember my Mom coming home from the market, and she was bleeping the horn for me to open up the garage for her.
I just let her toot her horn. No way I was missing this breakup. I was always a Rockers fan, but from that day on HBK would become my favorite wrestler of all time.

If you told me at that time that Shawn Michaels would become the WWF champion and one of the promotion's biggest stars for about a decade, I would've scoffed.

I would've scoffed because he was too small by WWE standards. He had the wrestling ability and charisma it was just that WWE was a notorious big man's promotion but after the steroid scandal I guess everything changed.
