I was reading an Apter mag for 1981 and I noticed a two page ad for "Wrestling Pin Pals".
Basically it had pictures of girls and boys as young as 8 and as old as 19 on there. Underneath each picture stated who their favorite wrestler is and if they like good or bad guys and if they are looking for male or female pen pals.
And get this, they even have their address listed!
Seriously pictures of 8-19 year old kids along with their addresses in a wrestling magazine.
Has any ever seen those ads while looking in old wrestling magazines?

It's funny because Rey Mysterio appeared in one of these when he was a young lad. If you look you can find a picture of it floating around somewhere, I'm just too lazy to look for it at the moment. Oh shit that's where that childhood picture of Tazz came from didn't it?

Damn, that might have been Taz after all. Didn't even think about it. For some reason I always thought it was Rey. It's funny because Rey Mysterio appeared in one of these when he was a young lad. The question I want answered is do you think him and his pen pal still corresponds? I bet those letters would be gold.

It was awesome! Tazz: I could break it...then CHOKE HIS ASS OUT! Girl: Hehehe you're cute! Tazz: Shut the f*** up! I'll choke your ass out too!

If they had something like that available today, the sexual predator issue would be much more of a problem than it already is.
I find the fact they had that in the '80's a questionable practice as it is.

It lasted well into the early 90s, the pen pal stuff.
I always wanted to do it as a kid, but never found anyone with similar favorites as I had.

Still I would be pretty wary of letting a kid give out their address and pictures in a magazine.

Atleast when your kid gets sexually harrassed it's just from some guy sending pictures of his junk.

The Apter mag pen-pals were funny in a disturbing way - it'd be this block of about 3-4 (or 6-10 when they devoted more space) kids, a couple of "geeky" type teens, maybe a regular looking lady, maybe a couple more and then in the middle of them would always be some biker/ex-con-looking 37 year old guy. Case in point: Click to see full-size: i158.photobucket.com/albums/t104/cbenee/pen0001.jpg

The character of Johnny Appleseed was based on Emilio Holvino... except for the part about planting apple trees... and not raping men

I'm not sure what I enjoy more. The Everett Stowe guy or some of the more obscure favorites:
Ricky Romero Ron Wright Pampero Firpo Ted Oates
I guess that doesn't make me too weird for my childhood favorites Jim Powers and Paul Roma.
