TNA should not have hired Shane Douglas back. Or if so, they should have made him train more/get back in ring shape.
He doesnt provide that much star power anymore. The old T shirt in the match look. His gut shook like a bowl full of jelly when he got hit. And he had to shake his fist a lot in his match with Styles. He just looks terrible. Sorry.
Why is TNA employing him? THey should focus on the future...

Cant disagree. I watched him tonight and he looked like a guy who was way past his prime and should be retired.

What struck me as odd was how pale half his arms were. Like he went tanning in a short sleeve t-shirt.

He looked a bit gassed, and I enjoyed the redneck tan he had. He reminds me of Tommy Dreamer in the fatness category, but Dreamer still seems in good shape, and puts on great matches.

I didn't think the match was bad, pretty solid IMO. But he doesn't look good and I don't see why they brought him back. I'd rather see Dutt or Petey back.

I think Douglas will work behind the scenes mostly. Also I heard he may be used as a manager. I would have him manage some wrestler to take out Daniels. Our give him a tag team to anager.

Although I won't comment until I've seen the match (UK so we don't get to see it until Saturday), I will ask if this thread is needed, since we already have a "is Shane Douglas past his prime" thread further down the page.

I've never really liked Shane Douglas.
Promo-wise, he's overrated. His in-ring work was above-average until about 1996 when he returned from WWF to ECW, and looked juiced-up and was dragging ass.
All that said...if you told me he'd show up in 2009 against AJ Styles, but...he's too fat to wrestle, wearing a T-shirt over a backwrap to cover his fathandles, and with 1991 leg tassles(!!!)...and it WASN'T terrible, I would've say you're out of your mind.
He was pretty damn awesome on Impact.
Shane Douglas is 10 years past his prime, and I didn't enjoy him back then. But I DID enjoy him as the 2006 TNA Backstage Announcer, and DO enjoy him as a 2009 TNA low-card old star trying to brawl with younger stars on the roster.
I never saw it coming, but I actually enjoy Shane Douglas right now. His bumping and brawling were so much more crisp now than when he last worked there trying to be a serious wrestler/character. I was amazed that he wasn't totally gassed, and was bumping harder for AJ Styles than he ever did when he was a regular competitor in TNA.
I like "Nothing to Lose" Shane Douglas better than "The Franchise". I could buy him as a poor man's version of the "crazy, old guy" like Terry Funk in 1989 NWA.

Yeah, for the character he's portraying, being in shape isn't all that key, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to look like he was "overcoming his demons" with something other than cheesecake.
As long as they don't stray from the idea that he's basically a washed up bitter guy who wishes he'd gotten another chance at TNA stardom it's ok, though. If they start booking him to win in convincing fashion it'd make his opponents look pretty bad. Gotta have him win by being wily and underhanded.
Or if he were to go face, squeak out a win by absorbing everything your opponent can dish out (the Funk/Foley/Dreamer way). But Shane Douglas is naturally hateable, so not sure that would go too great.

I WIll Never Make Fun Of The Remaining Member Of Wrestling's Greatest Trio but only one of the freebirds is dead anyway he looks like he should be nowhere near a wrestling ring, but look who they have as world champion

Douglas was damn good in every aspect of wrestling in WCW 2000-01. From his ring work to his promo stuff. And for that alone, I'm glad to see him back in TNA.

I, for one, am glad he kept his shirt on. Forget the cellulite, I'd be more afraid of the glare from his pale white torso. Shane Douglas looks like somebody's dad trying to wrestle with his high school football-playing son's friends. He just looks so out of his league, it's sad to watch.

This is what I've been saying since he cameback. I knew this was going to happen. Shane shouldn't have been rehired. He doesn't bring that much anyway. Manager role or backstage stuff is all he is good for. As a wrestler he not worth much. Not a big star anymore. He hasn't been in wrestling shape in years. He first run in TNA he was just as bad.
I guess we should be glad he didn't puke in the ring this time.

The pants I didn't mind because he wore it before in ECW, but at least he could've completed the tan he got.
I didn't think it was all that bad.
