Don't get me wrong, I like the character he's doing now, and I hope it gets him somewhere...somewhere beyond another cheap heat anti-American eeeevil foreigner look-at-my-crazy-passport faction (back to where he started). But kayfabe wise, what is it about EY that makes all the other members of the World Elite look to him for leadership?
He's won a couple tag titles, a loooong time ago, and according to Wikipedia he was X Division champ once (which I don't remember at all, but whatever), but as he keeps reminding us, he's spent most of the last 4-5 years as comic relief. So how come the Brits, Bashir, and Kiyoshi look at him and say, "Let's follow this guy?"

He's been in TNA the longest?

Think it was twice he got the X, but both ended up getting reversed.
Well, it might be since he's going after Jarrett and Foley personally, and it gives some kind of leadership spark.

I always thought the Europeans and asians and all that should treat Canadians in wrestling like Americans, for even more heelage. I could totally see Sheik being like 'You looked down on my people the same as the Americans'
TNA seems to have a boner for pushing Eric Young and I'll NEVER figure it out. Hell, the onlly funny part about him is James Storm, and Alex Shelley making fun of him, and JB reacting.

He likely knows the strengths and weaknesses of the TNA wrestlers better than anyone outside of Storm, AJ, or Daniels. It doesn't really explain why he's the leader, but it does help to explain why he's a member.

I'd say because he double-crossed and took out the boss (Jarrett).

Why Eric Young? They thought we'd take the World Elite seriously. They couldn't let that happen. It's not enough that they are, for the most part, vastly uninteresting. Nobody would've realized that right off the bat. So they had to get a symbol of mediocrity to let people KNOW that they shouldn't be paid attention to; and his name...is Eric Young!

They've pushed Eric Young?
All I can remember is a handful of incidences where he supposedly had his breakthrough then spent the next year getting his character obliterated.

What is with the Eric Young hate? This is (gasp) something different for him. Did anyone ever think that maybe he can pull it off? This isn't some goofy comedy skit like "Super Eric." Besides, who would have you (I speak in generalities here) gotten to lead that group? If it would have been Bashir, people would have complained that it's the same thing we've seen a dozen times. Brutus Magnus would have been met with a resounding "meh." He was their best bet at the moment.

I don't know why they did it, either. I watched Young's promo tonight, and I just couldn't take it seriously. Not sure why, but "Eric Young" and "serious heel" just don't belong together to my mind.

Wow, I actually really enjoy something in TNA and everyone else hates it. Go figure. I thought it was a great promo and this is the first time I've cared about Eric Young. I think he's their best heel.

I thought the promo was a wee bit long, but it served it's purpose as did the match. I'm digging the World Elite.

Me too. I like it a lot better than the Main Event Mafia, which to me is basically a second rate NWO knockoff. The World Elite is actually something a little bit different than anything we've gotten in wrestling in recent years.
As a casual TNA fan, I have to say that this is the kind of thing that's gonna get me to watch Impact more often. The company cannot sell itself to me as a fresh alternative when the main event consists of Sting, Mick Foley, Kurt Angle, Jeff Jarrett and Kevin Nash when I can see a CM Punk/Jeff Hardy feud on Smackdown. Nor will pushing the X Division get me to watch, some of that is exciting but too heavy on flash and bang acrobatics and not enough emphasis on in-ring storytelling or character development. The drama is what sells me on wrestling. I agree with Jim Cornette that interviews are the most important aspect of the business, and as far as I'm concerned Eric Young delivered tonight.
So to answer the question "why Eric Young" it's because the guy was capable of that and the company knew it. As for me, I had no idea and would never have guessed, but good for him.

He is a TNA veteran and none of the other World Elite have been in TNA for even a year yet.
I also have to say, this is the first time in well...ever that I am actually interested in something Eric Young is doing.

How is that a bit different. Other than that I do agree with you though. I'll give this stable a chance also because I like Eric Young and think he is a lot better wrestler than most people give him credit for.

I actually liked Eric Young's promo and he is more credible than anybody else in that group. I don't really like the idea of making a stable. It just looks whacky with 3 brits, shiek, and japenese guy all looking stereotypical and then the pissed off canadian guy. I like all the wrestlers involved but i don't think the stable will last.
I do like what they are doing with Eric Young though.

Was Eric in TNA before guys like AJ and Daniels? I don't seem to remember him showing up until Team Canada.
It was a good promo, but I don't like the idea of the stable. I am interested in Eric Young but the rest of the group is pure meh to me.
I so hate EY until he stopped being a joke and became serious Eric Young. I have wanted to see thi kind of push since then. I am for it. But it's going to get lost in the shuffle of the MEM
