It seems like each year the WWE is trying to move wrestlemania into the biggest venue possible. With the exception of New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, if a Wrestle Mania is taking place in another city, is it most likely going to take place in a football stadium. Oh wait, maybe I shouldn't mention that the WWE event is taking place in a "football stadium." Remember, on the live WM 23 broadcast, Donald Trump mentioned that he was at a "football stadium" during the live broadcast backstage vignette, but the segment had to be reshot for DVD without him using the words "football stadium." Anyway, of course we are constantly reminded that WrestleMania III was the groundbreaking event with over 90,000 fans in Pontiac Michigan. Then you had WM 6, in the Sky Done, which was the second wrestlemania to take place in a large stadium. Two years later you have Wrestlemania 8, emanating from the Housier Dome. It seems like WM 8, while having a pretty decent card, never gets the recognition of being one of the monumental events in WWE history like WM 3 or WM 6 was ? What is your take on this ?

I'd take a stab and guess it's due to 1992 being pretty much the end of the boom period, and a point in time that Vince doesn't really remember with much fondness. You have to remember this was right around the time that the steroid scandal was breaking, and business was not near to the level it had been 2-3 years previously. Being indicted by the federal government and nearly getting locked up is something inextricably linked with that time period for Vince, pretty much the main reason why this era isn't bigged up.

No it's the fact Vince realizes he could've had Hogan vs Flair two years before WCW, and while both were still in their prime really, but instead had Hogan vs Sid as the ME.

yea... that Mania was at the end of the boom and Wrestling was about to take a BIG hit in popularity and start taking a detour into smaller venues and cut off arenas.
That mania also ended in a DQ.

Also, keep in mind that in the same year, WWF had the extremely memorable Summer Slam in London.

Looking back, 92 was such a great year for the WWF.

All I know is, the original plan was for Undertaker to lose to Sid. But Hogan said he wanted to retire, so they had to change everything around. Wow, to think that the streak could have ended at 1.

It's not like the Hoosier Dome was some tiny venue at the time

The booking for Wrestlemania 8 is a lot like 21 in my mind. The best matches took place in the first half to two-thirds, while the rest of the card completely failed (in comparision).

When your main event is Hogan vs. sid, and it ends in DQ with the return of the Warrior...you'd pretend it didn't happen, too.

Also, I never understood why Papa Shango helped Sid out? That'd be like if Paul Burchill interfered during HHH/Orton this year.

Shango was supposed to interfere earlier, but he missed his cue, so Sid had to improvise and kick out of the legdrop. At least, that's what I read.

Considering that the WWF in 1992 was my favorite time in wrestling, I really don't get the hate for the change. WrestleMania VIII is my personal favorite WM and it doesn't get the praise it deserves IMO.
To me, the change didn't really start until 1993. WWF went from Superstars to Raw, most of the big guns of the 80's left or retired. The difference is really seen in the Royal Rumbles of the time.
Example: Look at RR '92 (perhaps the best ever) vs. RR '95 (where the New Generation really "shines") Even Rumble '92 & '93 are pretty different.
WM 8 was fantastic though.

The reason WrestleMania 8 was a bit of a disappointment in my view is all down to Hogan.
He decides he want to make movies again (think it was Mr Nanny this time) so potentially the biggest main event ever just cannot go down with the build-up and finish it deserves.
Think about it, Hogan going over the top heel in Flair then disappearing just doesn't make sense. And of course, Hogan would've never put Flair over strong. .
