His wife gave birth that day in Calgary. He hadn't made it to the show in time once it had started. He made it there for the finish though.

Simple answer: Because the clique wanted to go over but they all ready had the two singles titles. Thus the match where Nash powerbombs Owen even though he wasn't in the match. It was from about this point on in 1995 that things started to get really bad, ladder match at Summerslam aside. Stupid booking to make the clique look good at the expense of the company (like the triple threat match here or Shane Douglas jobbing out to Hall at the next INYH for the IC title without even getting to win it against Michaels as examples) that ended up almost pulling WWF down.

owen ruled btw! i wish he woulda came down that night..won the wwf title..even if he woulda lost next night on raw to diesel.. it woulda been awesome

Is there any proof of this, or is this strictly a rumor? Sure, I've heard stories from some bitter ex-WWF employees about Clique-Burials, but from what I remember, a lot of it was just that: rumors.
