I'm watching this show right now. It's so weird seeing so many guys in the locker room who didn't get used that night but then 5 other guys worked THREE matches each that night.
Something else I noticed. During the Clash of Champions where they drew the first 2 teams, the voiceover guy said that Battlebowl would be a 16 man battle royal. Anyone know why they changed it and knocked it down to 8 men? Especially since the prior year was 20 men.

Oh wow, this is the NEXT WCW PPV on my on-going journey (see: General 90s WCW, Wrestlewar 92, Beach Blast 92, Great American Bash '92 (with emphasis on the booking)) Looking forward to see what Bill Watts is going to next because that GAB is one of the dryest, most no-nonsense shows I've ever seen. It's like taking a step into Jim Ross's mind or something.

For the record, I'm going through all of my old tapes and I just completely skipped over the Great American Bash 92 tape. I didn't feel like sitting through an entire PPV of tag matches.

Are you just buying tapes, or are you doing it through WWE 24/7 or something like that?

For the record, I'm going through all of my old tapes and I just completely skipped over the Great American Bash 92 tape. I didn't feel like sitting through an entire PPV of tag matches. It is pretty dull. LOADS of mat wrestling, all clean wins, and NONE of these things. Gordy and Williams made to look like the best team ever to wrestle. However, Sting vs. Vader (first ever match together) is worth tracking down. Awesome chemistry. I'll let you know what I make of Starrcade in this thread soon. Dan Spivey made it to Battlebowl. I remember it felt like I hadn't seen him in WCW for a year at that point. It reminded me of Royal Rumble 92 when Haku came out.

Argh, I forgot about Halloween Havoc -- watching that tonight. Probably wont get to this for another week or two.

And actually, that Bash match was not the first time Sting and Vader had a match. They had one in April of 92 where Sting injured his ribs.

I remember the preveiw guide in WCW magazine was set up for more guys than they had.

This PPV underwhelmed me. 1992 was an overall awesome year for WCW but for some reason, much like 1989, what was an extraordinary year of great wrestling and angles ended on a wimper for me personally.

One of my favorite WCW PPV's, Sting/Vader and Steamboat/Douglas vs. Windham/Pillman were the matches of the night for me.

Of course they could have just created more first round matches to increase the size of the battle royal

Ok, now I finished watching this last night. And, as per usual, read all the reviews I could find on 411, plus my two "go to" guys Scott Keith and this fella. All-in-all, I think the critics are a bit harsh on this show. The general consensus seems to be that it's just Sting vs. Vader and a load of crap. This is simply not true. Scott Keith is particularly harsh on it, he gives the tag title match **1/4 for example. My thoughts: 1. I actually really enjoyed the Lethal Lottery segments. Just weird unexpected things like the Power No-Sell Show Down of Doom between the Barbarian and Vader, the f***ing wrestling clinic put on by The Great Muta/ Windham and Pillman/ 2 Cold Scorpio, man Muta was incredible in that little match. If that was 20 mins it would be considered ****+. 2. I couldn't help feel sorry for Erik Watts. His father should have nipped that run in the bud out of compassion. I mean have some pity Bill! He was not only green and horrible looking, he had no ability, like none at all. The crowd -- who were respectful as hell to Chono later -- booed him and cheered Dr. Death whenever he stiffed him. You will never see a hot tag get as little response from a crowd as during this match. Watts drops the worst dropkick in wrestling history in this match. I reckon I could do a better dropkick. 3. Now the reviews were right about one thing: Chono/ Muta sucked. That's two PPVs in a row Chono has killed the crowd with a boring as hell match. And then in the reviews it says "they had a great match in Japan two weeks before this" (almost a carbon copy of the Chono/ Rude match from Halloween Havoc). Why? Can Chono only work in Japan? Is he a good worker? I don't know much about Chono, but on this evidence he only does rest holds. The crowd LOVED Muta at Starrcade 92. 4. Simmons/ Williams wasn't that bad. I quite liked the pro football spots. However, that's the 2nd PPV in a row Simmons' title match didn't main event. Why put the title on a guy and bury his defenses? 5. Steamboat/ Douglas vs. Windham/ Pillman was an easy ****+ for me. Windham looked all out of shape here and pretty blown up to me, and he was working triple duty (!). Still hell of a match. 6. Sting/ Vader great match, but a little overrated in all the reviews I think. 7. Bill Watts's attempt to get over the Battle Bowl ring are nothing short of hilarious. Who thought that was a good idea for godsake? Also, on this show you had the NWA World Champ, the WCW World Champ, the "King of Cable" and the Battle Bowl winner (all of whom, with the exception of Chono, at various points in the show had been sold as "the number one guy in the company) very confusing. Messy booking, but a good show imo. And that's the end of the Cowboy.
