Stars & Stripes vs Harlem Heat for the tag titles. Bagwell does a really good job playing Ricky Morton here, and even The Patriot managed to be more than he usually is (a load). Harlem Heat are good as always as is Sherri, who sells the end perfectly even though I'm not 100% sure what happened. The point is, Bagwell used to be rather good, then he turned into tedium in a top hat. What happened? www.dailymotion.com/video/x3p2dy_harlem-heat-vs-stars-stripeswcw-tag_sport

I don't know if he got lazy or complacent...maybe he just got an inflated head from people stroking his ego?
I do agree, I thought Bagwell would be a huge wrestler. He was a part of WCW, just not as big as I thought he could be.

I think the ego's got to him, which is interesting because they never gave him the rub. He must of been content being the top guys friends backstage, because he just made it to the finish line and then quit.
He was real big in parts of 98' and the rest of his career was a slow downward slide.
His biggest win was a clean pin on Piper on Nitro and that was about it besides maybe a US title.

The classic tale of potential going to a perfect waste. If you read Death of WCW, it'll fill you in on exactly what destroyed his career, his character.

His biggest win was a clean pin on Piper on Nitro and that was about it besides maybe a US title. That was a win vs. Ric Flair. The win vs. Piper was on PPV in a Boxing match where Bagwell won by pinfall. Yup. He never won any titles besides the tag belts and four out of his five reigns were before the "Buff" days. It's funny how Buff became "big" despite no singles titles and not really having done anything main event-wise. Remember how Flair used to include him in his tirades about the icons of WCW? How about Vince McMahon naming him when polling the crowd favorites among WCW "Main Eventers"? I guess he was main event level popularity-wise instead of achievement-wise.

Buff helped end Goldberg's career!!!
... Seriously, he always bored the hell out of me. Even as an 8 year old, he was always one of my least favorites.

Years of being talked about as the future face of WCW I reckon, he never improved because he didn't feel he had to. By the end he was a Shawn Michaels level ego with Shawn Stasiak level ability.

WCW had a few bum rookie of the years... Buff and Das Wunderkin being 2 that come to mind.
ah potential that was never met.
Although I will say Buff was crazy over in the NWo days

I honestly thought he could have been a new Luger type.

First time I saw Bagwell, it was when he'd be doing the crazy white boy dance tagging with 2 Cold Scorpio in '93.
When I got back into watching wrestling again, amongst several other startling changes, Bagwell was one of the biggest ones. Didn't recognise him.

I heard he had calf implants. What on Earth would make someone do such a thing?
Bagwell was good with Scorp, but somewhere around the time of the American Males, he lost all momentum he had gained in my book.
Maybe it was that damned theme song...

I was always kind of complacent on Bagwell. I could really take or leave him. Although I really enjoyed doing the Bagwell strut. That's always a fun time.

Although I will say Buff was crazy over in the NWo days Alex Wright was a great worker who if I recall correctly, was derailed by a few major injures. By the time he got back, the booking team killed whatever hoipe he had left

Buff Bagwell was great. He should have been a main eventer in his late WCW days.

I remember him getting shoved out of his wheelchair by Hollywood Hogan on Nitro:
Don't get why they still kept him as a heel after this.

When I got back into wrestling in 1998, I liked Buff well enough, but his act eventually wore on me.
When I watch old videos, though, I kind of marked for Vicious and Delicious.

I remember him getting shoved out of his wheelchair by Hollywood Hogan on Nitro: Don't get why they still kept him as a heel after this. I remember the crowd being really behind him when he returned, so he had something (the stuff?) that could've translated to being much bigger than he wound up being. He had charisma, and that can make fans overlook limitations in the ring. WCW booking really messed up with him, imo.
