There's long been the rumor that David Von Erich was being groomed for the NWA belt before he died. What were some other rumored people for title runs?
Dibiase comes up a lot for the NWA belt as well, and shockingly Jerry Lawler and Steve Keirn were being considered for the WWF title in the late 70's early 80's. LAwler would have been a great fit.

In the WWE, Goldberg might have been promised the WHC so he wouldn't leave but probably left regardless since he didn't like the direction the company was going anyway.

I remember HHH signing a deal in either 98 or 99 that promised him a world title reign within a year. Might be newz, but he did win the belt after Summerslam 99.
Funny because when I first read that, I thought "HHH? Really? No way"
That was 13 World title reigns ago.

On Flair's shoot he said his second NWA title reign was a choice between him and Ted DiBiase.

Yeah, back when contract signings were actually a competitive sport, they were fought over.
