Just curious as to how "smart" people are around here. Personally, I feel like I'm a bit of a wrestling connoisseur, but I do have some chinks in my armor. It seems like I just don't forget information, ever since I started watching in the early nineties. I don't think there's too many questions I couldn't answer involving WWE (dating back to the mid nineties) and WCW, along with ECW and TNA.
However despite having watched a lot of US Indy, Japanese, and Mexican promotions, I still am unfamiliar with a lot of wrestlers and matches that I see people talk about from time to time. I still feel like an expert when talking about those promotions most of the time, because it seems like the average fan has seen none or very little of that stuff.
Anyway, this thread isn't meant to be self-boasting or competitive. I'm just really trying to see if I'm as big of a nerd as I think I am, or if there's a good number of people just like me on this board.

Really good with WWE's history, moderate with WCW and TNA, below average on ECW, horrible with the NWA, AWA, and most indies and foreign promotions.

Lousy with anything past the Attitude Era, but I know way too much prior to that, especially about the Memphis promotion.

Yes. ;D I've been a fan since I was around 5, back when Bret Hart and the Dynamite Kid were wrestling in Stampede. I love the classics, I get the occasional WWE DVD set, I pick up puro when I can... so my knowledge could be called 'spotty' at best. That's why I come here: to learn. Ask a question elsewhere and you get laughed at.

My knowledge is WWF from the 80s onward, somewhat about WCW pre-nWo, much better during the nWo era, slim about ECW, a tiny but if TNA and my only knowledge of the current WWE product since I stopped watching in April comes from here.
As far as wrestler's histories go, that depends on the person.

I know more 70's and 80's territory wrestling than I do with say WWE 2002.

I don't take in a lot of the newer stuff, mainly because most of my knowledge comes from reading. However, I am pretty good with the 1980s as a whole (WWF, NWA, WCCW, some Memphis). I can hold my own when it comes to the "older" (50s & 60s) wrestling. I major in 1996-98 wrestling (I have a lot of tapes), NWA History and ECW.
I watch Lucha Libre on Galavision but couldn't tell you who anybody is outside of Teddy Hart or Octagon.
Weak on puro.
But, I'm always open to learn. That's why this is my favorite group. I don't spend too much time at "Current", because most of it focuses on what happened this month.

I've watched a lot of wrestling, but I barely remember stuff most of the time, so I guess I'm the ideal wrestling fan. hahaha

I'd say I know a pretty good deal about wrestling from around 1987 to present day, though it would be considered "spotty" for sure.

Entirely too much to possibly be useful. This. My wrestling obsession is pretty heavy, although mainly WWF/E & WCW. I've been a die hard fan since I was 10 so that's going on 16 years. Growing up, every trip to the movie store meant a WWF or WCW pay per view tape. So I would say my knowledge covers late 80's and all of the 90's WWF and WCW, some ECW, some TNA and a tiny bit of the current independents.

I'm enjoying reading the responses. There's really got to be a way to utilize our random wrestling knowledge in a good way. Hey, here's an idea!
Since WWE likes to have complete control over everything in their company (ie. a development camp for wrestlers to learn WWE style) maybe they should just open their own college where you can learn anything from wrestling to backstage work. Complete with job placement. People like us would do very well in that sort of environment.

A good bit.
I don't know much NWA or territorial stuff though unfortunately. I try to familiarize myself with some of the current Indy feds and their major stars but there are so many now and alot of Indy guys have "sect fans" who are convinced they are the greatest thing ever even when they obviously aren't. Makes it alot to keep up with.

My knowledge level has shot up in the last couple of years, as my interest in wrestling has really shifted from the matches to what goes on behind the scenes. Booking and promotion decisions and the like.
I tend to remember most of what I read or see, so as a result, I have random knowledge that kind of goes all over the place. But I wouldn't say I was an expert on any particular era or organisation. Though I would say my knowledge of the WWF/E dwarfs that of my WCW or ECW knowledge. And I know almost nothing about Mexican or Japanese wrestling.

And I know almost nothing about Mexican or Japanese wrestling. The thing with foreign wrestling is that it's hard to learn just by watching matches because you can't understand the commentary. Some of my favorite matches ever came from Japan, but I have no idea why Kawada and Misawa were fighting. As far as I know, they don't even use angles over there (besides HUSTLE and DDT)
