Simply because the jacket is so cool. It's one of those things that makes an actual hard copy still relevant in my mind. Downloading stuff for an iPod is nice and all, but actually having a piece of work in your hands is even nicer ya know. Oh yeah, and the album itself is great as well.

An older relative of mine was once talking to me about how much album art used to be important to sell a record in the 70's...they had a HUGE canvas to work with and a lot of bands went with eye catching designs and really cool covers. Nowadays, more often than not, it's just a picture of the artist's face or something....it's like CD jacket design and art doesn't mean a thing.

Precisely. And once you've bought the album, you can easily rip the song and put it on your mp3 player as well.
People need to get off their fat asses and go to a record store once in a while.

I've always preferred owning a physical copy of an album to a digital copy. Just something about being able to go to a store and either grab something that you want or finding something that you've been looking for, that kind of experience is lost when you just point and click on a download.

I generally prefer CDs but I've took to downloading quite a bit lately to check out new bands and also because I don't have much money.

I never download music. All of my music is bought in the record store and then ripped to iTunes. I take my pride in my huge, physical music library.

Downloading sucks. It only takes a hardware-crash and your entire record collection is gone.

Death Magnetic is a really poor example to be using. The sound is way too loud and high and everyone agrees the Guitar Hero III mix is the best sounding one.

I thought this was about being too scared to download it due to the intense wrath of Lars Ulrich!

People need to get off their fat asses and go to a record store once in a while. Or maybe I'll just keep downloading music like I have been for years now, and simply back them up on an external HD and blank DVDs.

It certainly is a pretty strange mix, I wonder why they seem to love that crunchy sound these days?
