www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/11/06/orlando.shootings/index.htmlFor lack of a better word, s*** is crazy here right now. A man entered a 16 story office building here in Orlando and opened fire. No real update on the numbers but I've heard 2 dead and at least 8 shot but because of the number of floors they don't have exact numbers yet. They also don't have the shooter. SWAT is on the scene and both sides of the highway are closed down. Rumors are that this was a former employee. I'm starting this thread and telling you now that we will be monitoring it and adding that it will be a zero tolerance thread. We're getting tired of people coming in to threads and directly ignoring orders to keep the discussion within the rules. *Edit* Now they're reporting only 1 dead and 5 injured

I'm not that far from downtown orlando so yea looks like I wont be leaving the apt. anytime soon not that I had anything planned. No downtown for me tonight either.

Nicely worded on the lead in lildude, and for anyone in the arae, stay inside since the shooter is apparently not yet in custody. Stay safe above all else.
I wish I could say that the incident surprises me, but copycat crimes after an incident gets major publicity, as the Ft Hood shooting did, are not uncommon. As everyon else is no doubt thinking, my thoughts and prayers are with the people in the complex as well as FD and LEOs on scene. Sadly, thse kinds of cimes are tough to prevent, and can truly only be controlled or stopped on site by security measures.

One of our stations was reporting that the suspect was on the run. They have released a name, Jason Rodriguez, 40 years old. Looking for a 2002 silver Nissan SUV as well. At one point they had someone in custody who turned out to be a victim. They quickly got him to the hospital.
2 schools are also on lockdown.

He actually made a statement of "They left me to rot." I guess he's waving his right to remain silent.

This isn't the same reason as the other one though. Fort Hood=PTSD This=laid off engineer/recession victim takes revenge so? The two incidents can't really be connected. The shootings had very different motivations. "Performance issues" could be a cover up for the real reason this guy was laid off.

Well it's turning out that he hadn't even worked there for almost 2 and a half years Grudges can last a long time, esp. if the guy left under really bad circumstances. Maybe his coworkers complained to the boss about him, and he wanted to take it out on them for vengeance?

You left out Cleveland's House of Horrors. Mass murders happen in groups of threes it appears.
