My mother in law was looking online at a dvd box set, that I am questioning the legitmacy of. It is called Walt Disney 100 Years Classic Collection and contains 132 dvds and is only $144.00. She found it at sell1000.com, this seems too good to be true, and it contains a lot of good dvds. Is this real or is someone trying to rip her off.

It's not legit. I wouldn't buy it.

My rule of thumb, if its not on Amazon or sites of that caliber, I wouldn't go for it. Is it on the Disney website? I haven't heard about this DVD collection, but did hear about a 54 disc collection that's going to sell for $500.

yeah, as a rule, I'd stick to sites that I've heard of(sites like Amazon, or sites of retail stores, etc). Not saying that all sites that you haven't really heard of aren't legit, but you always run that risk.
I'd look around and try and find it online in other stores.
And one last thing, remember the old saying "If it seems to good to be true, it probably is"

Set looks real as I am pulling up several results on it and all around that price but, not from sellers like Amazon.

If I'm leery of a website... I always search Google on it. I just search 'domain website reviews' and go from there.

Maybe check out Tvshowsondvd.com They had some problems with pirate DVD offers, but have since tried at least, to rid themselves of those. If it's not on there, it's likely some guy in his mom's basement with a DVD recorder. The other thing is, Disney hadn't been around 100 years......

Even in the age of Blu Ray, HDTV, web streaming, and on demand, there is no way that a 132 standard definition DVD set would be sold for $144.
Either it's bootlegged stuff, a fan made compilation, or somebody trying to rip people off. Any way you slice it, I wouldn't risk it.

You guys know that Amazon sellers offer tons of bootlegs, right? Merchandise actually sold through the Amazon company itself is on the up-and-up, but you can find lots of questionable things there if you look hard enough (although it my case it's usually music).
The rule of thumb with Disney is that if you want it, it's being locked away in the Vault. Sorry kids, looks like your generation will miss out on The Lion King!
