So, tonight is the anniversary of Mr. John Lennon's murder and there is going to be another vigil at Strawberry Fields in Central Park. There's going to be a ton of singing and crying to be done. I'll post up pics sometime tomorrow.

Wish I could be there, but I'm in Los Angeles this year. I might head to the big 30th anniversary next year.

Oh come on. All the attention goes to the Dimebag thread, but Mr. Lennon gets no love?

I have a framed photo of the "Imagine" mosaic on the wall in my apartment. I haven't been to New York in years but the few times I visited Strawberry Fields, there were always a lot of people there and usually some flowers on the ground. Someday I'm gonna go there on his birthday or the anniversary of his death; those would be amazing to see.
Miss you, John.

I was born 3 years after John's death but I still feel like I lost a friend on this day.

All the attention goes to the Dimebag thread, but Mr. Lennon gets no love? not to be mean or anything, but he has been dead longer than most of the people on this board have been alive That and honestly, I think its more the Baby Boomers who were devasted than the subsequent generations. Sure later kids may have listened to Lennon's* solo work or The Beatles and think how it sucked that a good musician got cut down before producing more good stuff. But to the Baby Boomers, the Beatles were the group of that generation. Maybe not everyone's favorite band/music, but they were ridiculously popular across demographics and world-wide. When they split, it was like for those millions of young people the crappy aspect off growing up. And those hopes/fantasies that they could get over their egos and maybe regroup someday were killed along with Lennon. Its alot like when Michael Jackson died. Notice all those people of a certain generation or two who grew up listening to his Motown/Jackson 5/solo work. Alot of them cried when Jackson, who hadn't been musically relevant for two decades, died. Later kids just shrugged and went back to watching porn. *=Thought it was always odd how Lennon would at differing times in the 70s badmouth the crap out of McCartney, warranted or not. Then you read of how certain times during same said period, they would just hang out with each other. Its like finding out Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels still play cards from time to time.

I really don't like you how you single out younger generations as porn-watching, ignoramuses. I mean, I was born in 1981 and the music of Jackson AND Lennon are very relevant to me. I respect the impact the Beatles had on music but I'm not going to worship them lik emy father did. He'd probably never admit it but he has Beatles records that he's had since a teen. My mother was more into Creedence Clearwater.

But there is a difference between coming aware after his death, and living through the Beatles and that death. And that was the complete entire point I was trying to make. I mean your pops makes my point for me. And look at the sad "early" celebrity deaths that happened in my lifetime. Heath Ledger, Notorius B.I.G., Tupac, River Phoenix, Kurt Cobain, and others I can't really remember I suppose.

I would love to go next year, especially since RI isn't all that far from NY,but without a car(or a license, and I'm 22 going on 23)and not a lot of money to spend on a bus ticket for just one thing.I love The Beatles more than life itself and I was born 7 years after he died and it still hits me hard that I was never around to see a world when John was alive.

As for Lennon's death he is one of my hero's so the date is always a sad time; although I try to put more of emphasis on his life than how it ended.

My camera decided to conk out on me last night so no pictures But it was really nice. Lots of singing, some crying. I'll be going back to the park later on when I fix my camera, so I can at least have pictures of it.
