This is probably a giant problem.
Ok here's the story, 2 weeks ago I ordered tekken 6 Limited Collectors edition from amazon during one of there lightening deals for 60 bucks. The thing retails for 150.
Now when the package arrives someone in stock must've messed up because I got TWO limited edition versions of tekken six with me only being charged the 60 dollars.
So fearing that amazon would eventually find out, I sent them a message saying that I got a double shipment. They gave me the stuff to send the package back and I figure, sweet I don't have to worry about them finding out and suing me for something.
Fast forward to today, and amazon sends me an email notifying me that I've been REFUNDED for my order.
I STILL HAVE A COPY OF TEKKEN SIX AND THE ARCADE STICK! So yeah... due to amazon's incompetence I now posses tekken six, for free.
I'm shocked that this has happened, I also kind of don't know what to do now.

Send the extra copy back because they will most likely charge you for it.

contact them and tell them, first off. It may not be incompetence, it may be some part of their customer policy.

They won't charge you for the second one.
Sounds like they mis-inventoried.
They'll probably let you keep it without problems.

My advice is to contact them again, epecially if you paid with a debit/credit card. You don't want them to finally "realize their mistake" and hit your account at a bad time without telling you.

Contact them both by phone, email and certified letter informing them of their mistake. If a reasonable amount of time passes after their receipt of the certified letter (usually 60 days), then feel free to spend the money. Otherwise, don't touch it.

Yeah, they're customer service is getting weird. I pre-ordered Halo 3 ODST which was half a headache. It was $59.99. I used two codes for $10 and $5 that were for future video game purchases and was to get the Sgt. Johnson code. I get the game and no email notifications. Meanwhile, they drop the game to $50.99 that Tuesday which falls under the price-match guarantee. Apparently this was common place for hotmail addresses. Anyway, I email them to notifty that none of my codes are there and about the $9 price drop. Finally, they credit me $9 in gift certs (which is what I paid for it with, so no problem there) and send out the codes. Then a week or so later, they send me an email stating $9 has been placed into my account. I check it and there it is... an extra $9. So I ended up getting ODST for $41.99 with $15 back for a future game purchase (which I was gonna make anyway) so I basically got the game for $26.99, less than half the retail. I ended up pre-ordering Fable 2:PH for $14.99. Now I'm hoping they drop the price the day it's reseleased (January) so I can get it for even cheaper. I believe ODST was the beginning of the $10 off future game purchase that's more of a common thing now. I'm actually sitting on another $10 off one from L4D2.

Dude, you worry too much.
You got something extra .... They made a mistake. Let them pay for it.

I'm pretty sure online retailers aren't allowed to charge your credit card unless you let them (i.e. make a purchase). I know that if they make a mistake on the price and you buy the item, they can't come back and charge you the difference once they realize their mistake. I'd imagine this would fall into the same category.

Afterward, they cannot charge you again without your consent.

Yeah, my wording wasn't all that clear, but that's pretty much what I meant. They can only charge you the amount to which you agreed. Not a penny more. I've seen instances where, if the retailer has already shipped out the item prior to realizing their mistake, they'll attempt to have the shipment stopped and re-routed back to them. But once it arrives on your doorstep, it should be yours. They screwed up, it's their mistake. I'd imagine a large retailer like Amazon wouldn't care too much about the mistake anyways. Hell, they did this to me once before a few years back: I ordered season 1 of "The Simpsons" on DVD, and they sent me two copies about a week apart. Gave the other to a friend and never heard from them regarding the mistake.

I ordered the Rock Band game on its own when it first came out, planning just to stick to playing on guitar for the mean time using my GH controllers - they ended up sending the Band in a Box bundle for the stand alone game price. Result

I already sent back the extra copy, which they refunded me for, even though they shouldn't have.
If I wasn't afraid of amazon finding out about there double shipment I would've sold the second copy on ebay for 100 bones, which if you look on ebay right now is considerably cheaper.

Funny Amazon story that I felt belonged in this thread:
I haven't shopped at Amazon in about a year, when I ordered Guitar Hero III (Wii) to get for my sister's now-fiancee for Christmas. After ordering it, I returned it back to Amazon upon realizing I was better off getting him Guitar Hero: World Tour. Instead of refunding my credit card $49.95, they sent me a gift card in the mail for $49.95. I called them up, spoke to them about the mistake, and they said they would take care of the issue. I ended up getting the refund to my credit card and assumed everything was settled.
Flash forward one year to today, when I go on Amazon to buy my Dad the first six seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm. As I'm checking out, I'm surprised to notice that I have a gift card balance of $49.95 credited to my account. Took me a while to figure out that this was related to the situation from last year. No idea how it ended up on my account, but it's the only thing that could explain that specific amount.
In the end, I got the first six seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm for a shade under $45. Thanks, Amazon ;D
