He was a vampire though. How much emotion could he show? Dude suffered for 200 plus years... But his whole deal was he did feel emotions because he was a vampire with a soul. It's not really that anyway, he just wasn't very good at delivering lines at all. In the first few seasons of Buffy it looked like every scene he was in he was told all his lines just before the director shouted action, then he struggles to remember them. It didn't help that everyone clicked immediately into their characters while it took him a good few years to finally get a grasp of what he was supposed to be doing.

/\ I just realized that Buffy basically told the same story as Twilight, only much better. I've been saying the same thing since I first heard of Twilight. The name of the big bad in season 8 is Twilight so I'm hoping it's a knock on the books/movies.

I LOVED the Darla/Holtz/Baby Conor story arch...but just HATED grown up, whiney, moronic Conor. The kid playing him just couldnt act at all. And the Season 4 arc AFTER The Beast stuff just sucked. Not to mention Cordelia basically being evil and NOTHING like her character before up to that point.(which was a shame, because she was becoming very deep after starting off as just a shallow airhead)

Yes but you must admit the actual send off of Cordie was one hell of a sad ending. When Angel answers that phone and realized what was actually going on was tear inducing.

I love them both equally and it's way too hard to vote. And I actually like season 4 and 5 of Buffy quite a bit. Season 4 had some of my favorite episodes in the series.. but I can see why it isn't for everyone.

Angel wins this easily. I loved Buffy, but Angel was the superior show. By the end of Buffy, the characters were barely recognizable, and not really a unit. Plus Buffy became a mega-bitch.
On Angel, the characters were still recognizable and weren't destroyed, and they were still a unit. Plus there were actually consequences for character's actions.
On Buffy
Andrew killed Johnathan, and with the exception of "Storyteller" it's not really brought up, that he did kill someone.
Anya was a vengeance demon that killed a crapton of people, and it's ignored.
Willow killed Warren, and tried to end the world and she got a vacation for it.
Spike was Spike. He killed a lot of people, and tried to rape Buffy in season 6, and it was completely ignored.
On Angel
Angel has to answer for 100 years of evil he committed, and he realized he can never make up for it. But it's not forgotten about, and he keeps fighting, because of what he had done in the past.
Wesley made a bonehead decision with the best of intentions (taking Connor because the prophecy said Angel would kill him), and he is completely isolated from the group. Wesley and Angel's crew did reunite in season 4, but that was because the Beast had been unleashed. It wasn't until near the end of season 4, where Angel told Wesley he understood what he did, and wasn't pissed at him for it.
Gunn killed Professor Sydel, and he and Fred are never the same. He also sold out to Wolfram and Hart allowing the sarcophagus of Illyria to get out of customs, which resulted in Fred's death. He gets fired for it, and ultimately takes Lyndsey's place in the hell dimension. It's not forgotten about what he did.
Spike, actually comes to realize that like Angel, what he does now doesn't balance out the evil he had done. He tries to seek redemption.
I think quite a bit of that, has to do with Joss not being that involved in Angel.

Buffy.
Angel was a great show no doubt but after a while the whole Wolfram and Hart thing was tiring.

Hmm, Angel for the better theme song, though I do like the Buffy one, too.
Besides, while neither show was perfect, Buffy had more stuff that irritated me, like "we've got a quota to meet" Willow as a lesbian, tossing out all of the chemistry that had worked to cultivate between her and Xander, and some of Buffy's behavior that really hurt her as a heroine that I gave a crap about.

Buffy very easily. I not only thought it was better in pretty much every category, but I found David Boreanaz as Angel insufferable. He ended up half-decent, and he absolutely rocked it as Angelous but for the most part he's worse than Keanu Reeves trying to emote. Weird because in everything else I've seen him in he's fine. Looking back at the first season of Buffy I always wonder how they hell he got his job. Yes he's good looking, but surely they could have found someone who could accurately portray someone who had at some time been linked to the human race? He was just awful... I guess I ended up preferring him all the same over(and I will get flack for this) Spike. Sure, he's handsome and smarmy, but the overrating of him by fangirls was tiring. "Okay, we're going to need you to go out there and be Billy Idol. Are you ready to rake in undue praise for it?"

Buffy. Angel was a great show no doubt but after a while the whole Wolfram and Hart thing was tiring. I loved Wolfram and Hart. They got a long standing main villain, that was actually threatening. Plus they were a bigger villain than what Buffy and the Scoobies ever faced. Wolfram and Hart were controlled by the Senior Partners, who were basically pure evil. I also loved that we never saw them, and Angel and the crew never defeated them. They were always going to be around, because they were evil. I also liked that Wolfram and Hart's apocalypse wasn't the end of the world massive battle. It was the complete corruption of humanity. They didn't want to destroy humanity, they wanted power. If you stood in the way of their apocalypse, even if you were evil they'd try to take you out. Hell they were the reason The First was defeated in season 7 of Buffy. I agree with you Bradley, Angel was better than Spike.

oh yeah i should have voted for Angel just for the Zakk Wylde cameo "Oh Jasmine, You came and you gave without taking." That whole sequence has to be one of the funniest things that show has ever done.

As much as I liked Spike, and as much as I liked Season 5 of Angel, I felt like he was not needed. And it kind of ruined his whole personal sacrifise for love by just reappearing again. And pretty much didn't do anything in the finale noteworthy. Hell, LORNE did something noteworthy in the finale.

Loved both shows but I gotta give the edge to Angel.
Like people have already mentioned, I liked how it had a darker without it losing its sense of humour. Also, I think there was a lot more character development in Angel than there was in Buffy.

i cant choose between the two, i got to see the end for buffy and the last episode of angel and would liked to have found out how the battle ended.
as for spike re-appearing, he wasnt behind that lindsay was and he used spike pretty much as a patsy until he could try to take over wolfram and heart.
otherwords they realised spike had a big fanbase and wanted to get them to switch over to angel.
