www.gametrailers.com/news/psp-4000-revealed/1681First of all this is an unestablished rumor so take everything with a grain of salt. Secondly, is the PSP Go really such a failure that they have to bring back the dead and buried UMD drive and disks? Thirdly, still no second analogue stick apparently, genius right? Fourthly, how on earth do they justify bringing back UMD to PSP Go owners who went and sold their UMDs and re-bought them through the digital store? Like I said, I hope this is rumor because it sounds like a complete marketing cock up if this turns out to be true.

The UMD and UMD drive isn't dead, mean. There has been over 50 million PSPs sold, only a few hundred thousand(at best) are PSP Gos.
The mistake was losing the UMD drive in the first place.
And if the PSP-4000 does have a UMD drive, it'll be Sony's way of saying that the PSP Go was a failure without them actually coming out and saying it.

And the download functionality will still be there for those who want it, I'm assuming. But I should stop saying things like that, because it makes people think I'm taking the other side and opening myself up to being attacked.

Oh I know that the UMD drive was relatively successful but it was Sony's choice to bury it and move on. Except now they're apparently not going to do that.

Seriously, Sony. Do we really need another PSP model? We've got like 3 already?
Then again, they do seem to be taking a page from Nintendo *remembers all the Gameboy and Gameboy Advance variants.*

Then again, they do seem to be taking a page from Nintendo *remembers all the Gameboy and Gameboy Advance variants.* DS, DS-Lite, DS-Lite-i, all in variations of about fifteen colors. Oh and that special super DS they released. I think the DS gets some slack because it's a lot more successful and popular. I don't think Sony will ever catch up with the market plan they're using for their hand-helds.

I mean come on, the PSP launched in 2005, same year as the 360, and has sold more units than either the 360 or PS3, and has roughly the same as the Wii. The fact that they are either beating or tieing the current home consoles in terms of world wide sales is a huge success.

Hell, the PSP-1000, 2000, and 3000 could already download things....

No, the DS gets slack because Nintendo knows their market, knows what they want, and makes improvements and additions to their devices. Each one of the DS models you mentioned were marked improvements over the other, and Nintendo didn't force one over the other. Sony seems like it's floundering with the PSP right now. The Go wasn't a bad idea, it just wasn't the giant leap forward that Sony needs right now. I don't think it ever was meant to be that. The lack of good software is really what's hurting the PSP, and really, the second analog has handcuffed developers and players from the get-go. We'll see if any of that gets corrected with the 4000...if it even exists.

Personally, I think the PSP has a lot of good (or at least interesting) games going for it (enough that I'm thinking of picking one up again), but then, just because they're games I'M interested in, it doesn't mean that they're games that the majority of people are.

Yes, it is genius, the system has a 5 year record, and millions of owners who don't want to upgrade to play new games. Save the second joystick for PSP2, there is no point to add it now. The system has been around a while, don't add something that alienates your current user base.
Also, they never put aside the PSP3000 for the PSPgo, hell, they are still coming up with new bundles for it, and selling/promoting it. SO it isn't like they see the go as a failure.
And third, Sony has said this is BS, and was a misprint.
Which with Sony can mean it is true, but still.

Sony is terrible at keeping things secret.
