Both were talented, both had a bunch of hits... Which do YOU prefer?
I'm wanting to say The Monkees but my heart goes with the Beatles.

This is a question? I like the Monkees a whole lot, in fact they were the first band I loved when I was a kid because I thought show was awesome, but come on. Beatles by a marathon.

The Beatles, and it's not even close. It's like comparing a little league team with a major league team to me.

I'd say the Beatles were Babe Ruth and the Monkees were say...Sam Rice (a decent player but not one of the best HOF'ers out there.)

well, ive met 3 of the 4 monkees with mike nesmith being the only one i have yet to meet, and all of them were super nice, with micky dolenz being the nicest coolest of the bunch. song wise...when they started writing there own stuff monkees were amazing. but the beatles had alot of great albums and seem to be more memorable. however, i cant overlook the great monkees songs like Zor and Zam, Circle Sky, Randy Scouse Git...but the beatles are just generally awesome with too many great songs to name. i think im going with the beatles but the monkees are very very close to them.

The only Monkees song I know off the top of my head is Last Train to Clarksville, though I really like it.

Monkees, far and away. I give respect to the Beatles for what they did. But they were part of the start of the Rock Star image, which has since tainted music. And I can listen to their stuff, and be ok, but I can sing the Monkees all damned day.

Monkees are very underrated but Beatles easily. This is how I feel exactly. I mean, I love the Monkees. I really do. "Pleasant Valley Sunday" is up there with any of the early Beatles songs like "Love Me Do" or "She Loves Me". But musically, the Beatles are miles ahead of Peter Tork and Co.

they don't even play their own instruments for the first 3 albums they didnt...outside of mike i think who had it in his contract...they did however play there own stuff from headquarters on. micky isnt a bad drummer probably comparable to ringo. plus the monkees hung out with the beatles, micky talked about in his book hanging out with them in the studio when they were making sgt. pepper. plus lennon told micky that he thought the monkees were the best thing hes seen since the marx brothers.

Davy Jones had a house in the neighboring county from where I lived for a while. My dad worked right near there and a few guys at work ran into him at bars. Apparently, he was a bit of a dick and didn't want to talk about the Monkees at all. My uncle saw him at a bar one night as well, but he heard he didn't want to talk so he just nodded and said Davy nodded back. Although, my sister met them briefly at a concert that all but Nesmith were at and said they were all really nice. Then again, she was like 10 at the time and it was a concert. I'm not saying Jones is a "dick"... just what I've heard, but if you go to a bar, you have to expect that. You're talking about an area with very few borderline notable "celebrities" passing through, let alone one living there. I remember people being shocked when Gordon from Sesame Street came to our town for a fair. Oh, and a sidenote... Apparently Jones stayed in the area for as long as he did because the local recording studio was giving him all the free time he wanted to record. All the while dude went on and on about Davy, yet wouldn't let anyone else talk to him and was charging every other band outrageous prices because he had the only studio around. (I could go on and on about that guy being a dick.)
