Yup, snatched it up the moment I could and finished it in one or two sittings. I think I had to stop to go to lousy work. Definitely interesting.
If you do a search on Youtube, there's a 3 hour long interview he did, which in some ways, I find better than the book. It's Carlin telling the same basic story, but in his actual voice.
The book was incomplete at the time of Carlin's death, so that's perhaps why the ending seems rushed.

Read it, loved it.
Best "sortabiography" ever.

Of Carlin's 4 books I own (he put out one back in 70's that's kind of forgotten about) this is the only one that didn't have the joke about running a guy over, then backing him over, then running him over again.

I bought this book for my dad for Christmas. It's really hard for me not to read it, but he's the one who got me into Carlin, so he deserves it.

I have the audiobook version. It's read by his brother Patrick and at times it's almost scary how similar their voices are. There was some stuff I knew and a lot of stuff I didn't. I agree that the ending was a bit rushed but overall I really enjoyed it. I'll have to get the actual book one of these days.

I knew he was pretty messed up in the 70's but i was shocked about what kind of shape his wife was in.

His A&E Biography talked about his drug use and Brenda's alcoholism and health problems but never went into as much detail as the book does. Scary stuff.

I bought the book a few weeks ago, but haven't sat down to read it yet. Perhaps I should do that soon.

The story about the first time he started collecting and writing down dirty words and sentences and then his mother finding the list is hysterical.

Bought it and loved it. Wish it was longer though, as the content from 2000 to his death is pretty slim.

The one from the 70's, is that the cartoony looking one that kinda looked like a big special edition magazine or something? I remember checking that one out at the library when I was a kid through inter-library loan once, but then was never able to get it again because it became "unavailable" (I think someone ripped it off). Always wanted to get my hands on a copy again and see what kind of jokes in there went over my head as a wee tot.

Oooh, gotcha. When I read your post, I interpreted it as that you had that older book and were missing one of the newer ones. No idea why I read it that way. lol. sorry. *edit -- found it. Not much info on it, but it's called "Sometimes a Little Brain Damage Can Help." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sometimes_a_Little_Brain_Damage_Can_Help

I liked it a lot. It was a lot different from his other books, in that it has a lot more of his life story and less of his jokes and observations and for that reason I would really only reccommend it to people who are already fans but I really enjoyed it.

My girlfriend bought it for me recently, and I read through pretty damn quickly. Very gripping, funny, and sad all at the same time. {Spoiler}I'm depressed that George never lived long enough to realize his dream of capping off his career performing a one-man show on Broadway. I know that it would've been awesome.
