Why do people have a problem with the Pop Idol thing? The top area of the charts has always been home to mountains of middle of the road music - it's comforting to people, and they like the sound. Having an issue with that is like insisting that everyone J.G. Ballard over Stephanie Meyer, or Chris Morris' Jaaaaam over Mr Family - sure, one is made with possibly more care and thoughts about artistic validity, but it's just not going to tickle everyone's artistic tastebuds. I don't get it either, to be honest. I completly avoided X-Factor this year not for musical integrity but because...I didn't want to watch it this year. I have no idea how good any of them are nor am I that keen on finding out. They're just a remake of an old 80s/90s TV concept but done in a way to make more money from it. Nothing more and nothing less. And in this day and age when the majority have MP3 players and the ability to download almost any track they want to, I was happy with not knowing anything about it (apart from the Tweets and Statuses about how much people hated it). If I can set up my own list of songs I like, why do I even need charts to tell me what others like listening to? The thing that gets me about this is that this whole effort could be put behind someone who doesn't have a major label and someone who people agree is different from the winner in question instead of basically lining an executive's pockets with money (Really, an exec isn't thinking 'Oh Jeez, Rage Against the Machine? Those rebellious lyrics will kill us!', are they?). There are plenty of those guys around but people always like waiting for the mainstream to catch up when it never has, never will nor needs to.

All I'm hoping is that I don't get loads of people saying how they 'dig' the RATM song when they probably hadn't heard of them two weeks ago. Thats what I'm scared of. Obviously if your a kid thats fine but otherwise you will be frowned upon.

Obviously if your a kid thats fine but otherwise you will be frowned upon. I don't think it matters where you hear it for the first time, the important thing is that people are getting a chance to hear a great band like RATM. I know people that would have never listened to Thin Lizzy, Dead Kennedys, or Black Sabbath until they played the "Guitar Star Rock DJ Band Band Revolution" games, and now those people are huge fans of these bands. It's a good thing. Also, a quick update, RATM are now iTunes number one, despite iTunes lowering the price of the full album to £2.96 to try and get people to buy that instead. Warning: Language and 110% of your recommended daily allowance of win.

I wish the campaign for the Muppets' "Bohemian Rhapsody" to be #1 had picked up more steam ...

Joe McElderry was on radio 1 this morning with Chris Moyles, and Moyles mentioned it and they were talking about and Joe doesn't seem to mind at all. He knows for the most part its nothing personal towards him, and he's just thrilled to of won and to be living his dream.
Moyles also suggested that Joe recorded a cover of Killing in the name as a ballad and have it as a B-side on the CD. I actually think it'd be brilliant

Since I'm entertained by Simon Cowell's whining and crying, I bought it! ;D
If anyone outside the UK wants to make a purchase count, all they have to do is add the FoxyProxy addon to Firefox, add a proxy server address (very easy to find AND legal!) and buy the mp3 from a site in the UK. To make it even more convenient, a few of them take Paypal so you don't have to worry about credit card info bouncing around a few servers, it's all nice and secure...
