I seem to be consistently in the middle of the pack. Hopefully this round will be different.. I just hope I get the team I want, so I can really make a big impact.
Also, I had a strong feeling that DoubleH wouldn't like the remix of D.A.N.C.E. that I provided. Glad to see it was well received by Widows Peak and Statman.

Land of 1,000 Dances (Chris Kenner / Wilson Pickett) Old and busted: Pretty good. Not great, but pretty good. New hotness: Pickett made that song his own. Put 'em together: You know, the whole old-school-meets-new-school thing is kind of cliche, but it works really well here.
D.A.N.C.E. (Justice) / W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E. (Wale) Old and busted: This is one of the best funky grooves to hit the pop scene in the last couple of years, and the song's just so infectious that you can't help but get it stuck in your head. And that's to say nothing of the video. New hotness: The kid can flow (and he drops a Zach Morris ref), but man did the censor have his work cut out for him. We know his family won't be going hungry anytime soon. Put 'em together: Good, but it doesn't do the sampling thing as well as Super Freak/You Can't Touch This.
No Ordinary Love (Sade / Deftones) Old and busted: Why do I suddenly have the urge for baby-makin'? It's a very good love song. New hotness: The parts where Chino sounds like he's about to slide into full Deftones mode are great, but most of the rest of the song is just a straight cover. If you didn't know it was Deftones doing it, you wouldn't think it was all that different, and that's half the appeal of an out-of-genre cover. Put 'em together: If they had just let themselves go, it would've been excellent. Alas, the cover drags your score down.
Mad World (Tears for Fears / Gary Jules) Old and busted: I'm not huge on new wave, but this one was decent. That said,... New hotness: Wow. This song is just so beautifully haunting. Put 'em together: Going from a pop-like sound to a soul-searing song makes this combo a winner.
Super Freak (Rick James) / U Can't Touch This (MC Hammer) Old and busted: 80s funk at its 80s funkiest, for better or for worse. New hotness: 90s pop-rap at its 90s pop-rapiest, for better or for worse. Put 'em together: I'm going to call this an inspired choice, not for the songs themselves, but for showing what sampling can do. Nice picks.
Free Fallin' (Tom Petty / John Mayer) Old and busted: Tom Petty is awesome. Free Fallin' is awesome. Awesome + awesome = ... well, you can figure it out. New hotness: Whenever you cover a song as iconic as this, you always run the risk of coming off as a cheap knockoff. John Mayer does an excellent job making the song his own. Put 'em together: I'm torn. These two songs are awesome, but combined, they don't 'tell a story' quite as well as Land of 1,000 Dances does (and if you ask me to articulate that, I can't. Sorry).
This Is Halloween (Cast of Nightmare Before Christmas / Marilyn Manson) Old and busted: A very good movie song, but just like good entrance music doesn't always equal good music, good movie music doesn't always equal good music. New hotness: This is a nice take on the original, but it's still not amazing. Put 'em together: These two pieces, even with different performers, are more or less the same. Which wouldn't be bad if it was a great song.
Top 4 1) Mad World 2) Land of 1,000 Dances 3) Free Fallin' 4) Super Freak / U Can't Touch This
Bottom 3 Low) D.A.N.C.E. / W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E. Lower) No Ordinary Love Lowest) This Is Halloween

Oh my gawd! I don't believe it. I actually got a negative score on Free Fallin'! One of my favs. Wow, I'm in shock. Evil Double H, you have been the nicest judge to me until now. I feel betrayed. Well remind me not to use any acoustic music, and stick with the Fast paced songs, for Double H's sake. It's a shame, I really like acoustic music, but now I know one judge doesn't. It's just so disheartening to get a negative score on a song like that. *Sadness* *Sad bottom lip*

Thought for sure Pickett would get me into the next round. Too bad Kenner did the original though as I had thought before it was Cannibal and the Headhunters:
Much better then Kenner. Good luck to the rest of ya.

Is the curse of the team round rearing its ugly head once again?

Yes, I am dropping out! The curse I tells you! (No, not really. That was just a quick comment concerning the team rounds. )

Yes, I am dropping out! The curse I tells you! (No, not really. That was just a quick comment concerning the team rounds. ) You had me going for a minute. Its too early in the morning for that kind of joke. I have my selections from Pegasus and SSnakebite, so everyone check your PMs to find out which team you are on.

My pick has been sent. It was a toss-up between two artists, but I made the right decision.
Also, glad I got the genre I wanted. That helped the decision A LOT.

I'm sorry Evil Double H. At least I know some of the judges stylings now. Haven't quite figured out Widow's yet. But One of these days. Edit: Sent in the song. It is my own personal favorite pick so far.

And I spoke to soon. We ran into an issue with one of the songs, so results will have to wait until a replacement is found. That contestant has been notified via PM. Judges are on hold until the switch is made. *And Cageking is back on the panel. I'd like to keep PKS on as well if he'd like to stay, so we'll have 5 judges from this point on.
