HOYT HOYT HOYT HOYT HOYT HOYT HOYT HOYT HOYT!!! Back me up Lenny HOYT HOYT HOYT HOYT! He was awesome in TNA. Last night though, he basically seemed like a different guy altogether. When he first walked out, I didn't even recognize him -- I saw his hair and thought Rene Dupree was back!

It is a shame. His look was weird to me, but this is the first time I had seen him with short hair. He did the capable geek well in TNA, something that WWE has not truly embraced since Mankind (V1 was geekier, but the WWE did not embrace him as much). Instead, he has the default heel hoss gimmick. Knox is the last one of them to truly expand on that gimmick any, but not really in the ring. Yawn. But he's in tins intense.

Vance Archer. Sounds more like a "Robin Hood" gimmick. Robbing titles from the champs and giving them to the mid or undercard wrestlers.
How's that for a gimmick?

So people really wanted him to keep his Test 2.0 look?
I thought he looked okay in his new look, he don't look like a wanabee rocker with a bottom-of-the-back tatoo anymore.
He also now show aggressiveness compared to before when he was softer than a pillow in the ring.

He looked cool on ECW. I like his music and how he carried himself.

Here it is in all its 60 seconds of glory. Ooh, I want name his finisher. "Bullseye!" Cause his last name's Archer. It works. Probably be something stupid like "Add-Vance". I like "Bullseye".

"A hybrid of street & mat fighting skills and Dallas" TNA reference? Since his original ring name in TNA was Dallas?
I don't like the short hair but I like the tights. Rather see him busting out some of the ridiculous athletic moves he did in TNA though than a reverse DDT for a finisher.

You can't expect him to blow his wad on the big moves in the first match he has on the roster.

I don't understand why they don't just have him do a moonsault as a finisher. I mean he can do a moonsault after all and it would make more sense for a guy his size to use it as a finisher, rather then just another move the way TNA did.

I agree wholeheartedly, but then again these are the same people that did not let Vader use his moonsault finisher when he first arrived (can't blame them for that decision later, but he was still in the same shape he was in WCW at first).

As someone who has watched the guy since he started in the wrestling business basically, it is awesome to see him make it onto WWE TV.
I still remember when he announced on the radio here that TNA had actually signed him to a deal back in 2004 (pretty funny story actually, he wasn't even supposed to be used on the show where he and Kash entered the tournament and won the tag titles, he was just there visiting and trying to get a tryout). And I was super pumped then, and I have the same feeling now.
I'm not big on the new look yet, but I've watched him with the long hair, facial hair, etc. for basically a decade now. So it will probably grow on me eventually.
I just hope at some point they let him go all out, and don't stick him with the generic hoss moveset. Because he's capable of so much more, which you saw some of if you saw him in TNA, and then he can do even more from what I have seen locally over the years. I'm trying to remember if TNA ever let him do the Van Terminator, it seems like they did once or twice, but I can't remember for sure. If they didn't, it's an awesome sight.

It was short introduction match that they probably threw together so someone could replace Sheamus. I'm looking forward to see what they're do with Archer in upcoming weeks.
Now: Random critiques of the match from someone who doesn't know what they're talking about:
--If he's Mr. Intense, he shouldn't be holding his hands up as if to say "Ok, ref" when the ref tells him to get back. He should just step back and wait for the opponent to get back in. Treat the ref like a bystander who just raises your hand afterwards
--The slap in the corner was worth more than any high-impact move. It got the attention of the crowd who was rather "blah" on the squash match.
--I liked the brief look at the crowd before hitting the finisher.
--Yeah...different finisher, or at least different way of doing it. The wind up made it seem like a high impact throw was coming and then...the guy lands on his feet, Archer stares into the distance, and then does a Maryse-like Leg-whip(She does a hair whip but it still reminded me of her) for the DDT. Going from a slam into a falling Reverse DDT would work better than the random pause in the middle so that you can scream...intensely.
--Just don't switch to big boot or pumphandle slam. Please.

I dunno, maybe we shouldn't be so quick to dismiss him as a failure based one match. Kofi's first match was botch-heavy, MVP beat a jobber in his first match and I bet the majority crapped all over it. Let's see what happens in the next few weeks before we start declaring the death of his career. Thank you. I'm amazed that smart folks like us would judge somebody off their FIRST televised match. They clearly want to push him and show TNA's underutilized talent what WWE can do for them if they're good hands. Because I thought the repackaging was great. His image was AWFUL before. I'd see him on FCW and think "WWE would never take a guy who looks this bad." Marketing talent between WWE and TNA is a night and day difference, and it's no wonder TNA let him go. They didn't know what they had. I hope they're kicking themselves now. Oh right. Hogan will fix everything, nevermind. He taught Vince how to be a promoter, you know.
