This means of course, my own list will be supplied, and I will try to compile some random number, again, and whatever appeals to me, again.

I'd like to see it. 16.Alexisonfire - Old Crows/Young CardinalsThis album was a huge step up from Crisis, in my opinion. Crisis wasn't bad, but it's easily my least favourite Alexisonfire album. This album has a lot of energy and it's got great lyricism...things I've come to expect and love about Alexisonfire. I'm not into George's scream as much these days, but that's not really something he can help, so I don't fault him for it. But yeah...and there's still a huge amount of Dallas singing, which I can never complain about, because that man's voice is incredible. So yeah...check this record out. I'd recommend their self-titled and Watch Out! over it...but it's still really, really f***ing good.

Heh, when I booked Emery it was with AlexisonFire so it is funny that both are talked about here. If Silverstein makes it, then that entire show is in this thread.

Here are the only eleven albums I bought in 2009 (well, out of those released in 2009...I've bought things from the 90s mostly). Anyway, here ya go, in order:
11. Heaven & Hell - The Devil You Know 10. Kiss - Sonic Boom 9. HORSE the band - Desperate Living 8. mewithoutYou - it's all crazy! it's all false! it's all a dream! it's alright 7. Mastodon - Crack the Skye 6. Between the Buried and Me - The Great Misdirect 5. The Mars Volta - Octahedron (not my favorite of theirs, but I think this is a better album than Amputechture) 4. Eye Alaska - Genesis Underground 3. The Dear Hunter - Act III: Life and Death 2. Every Time I Die - New Junk Aesthetic 1. He Is Legend - It Hates You (and I really wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did, considering how sour the taste in my mouth was from Suck Out the Poison <I know there's a pun there, ignore it>. But It Hates You was phenomenal!)

YOU'RE JUST INDISCRIMINATELY THROWING YOUR WEIGHT AROUND YOU JERK. S'alright. I can do it again . No big deal. 15. Jay-Z - The Blueprint IIII don't remember word for word what I said BECAUSE SOMEONE IS A JERKFACEHEAD , but I'll try my best. This album gets a lot more flack than I think it deserves. He didn't do anything too incredibly innovative here, but every album doesn't need to be. It's got an awesome atmosphere and he's totally on top of his game. Jay's flow is amazing as usual, the lyrics are outstanding, the production is killer, and there's really not many weak tracks here. Hell, it even got me to tolerate Rihanna, which is a huge accomplishment. So yeah...listen to it and stuff.

Alright. As I was trying to say earlier, I edited my initial list, as the release of Between the Buried and Me's "The Great Misdirect" had slipped my mind.
And I agree that Amputechture is an awesome album (I've yet to hear a Mars Volta album I don't like), I just happen to prefer Octahedron.

Also have yet to hear one I didn't like. They're just damned awesome. If I had to put them in order, it'd probably be: 1) De-Loused in the Comatorium 2) Frances the Mute 3) The Bedlam in Goliath 4) Amputechture 5) Octahedron All stellar albums though. And f*** yes, The Great Misdirect was so awesome. Almost as good as Colors. Nooot quite, but almost.

15. Green Day - 21st Century Breakdown [/i] Yeah, I know, it's so cool to hate Green Day now. I don't really care. I love them, and I love this album. I'm a sucker for concept albums, and honestly this is probably the most they've ever stylistically deviated from their normal sound. It packs a lot of energy, great lyrics, and still very much a Green Day album. I love it. I honestly don't understand the super widespread hate for these guys and their new stuff, it's still very much Green Day, they're just not as slacker/stoner pop-punk like they used to be. Quite frankly, I'm fond of the change. Either way, this album is fantastic and I highly recommend it if you're into Green Day.[/center]

I felt it deviated less from their sound, more so it felt like they returned more to the punk rock roots than they had in years (and in fact the past 2 records have more the punk style political and social commentary than anything they used to play). Nimrod was the one that really deviated the most I think.
But I do think this was a great album, and all the hate they get now is kind of insane.

I might as well post my top so and so, since everyone else is. There is A LOT of stuff I need to get around to listening to 8. Winter Hours-The Deep Dark Woods My first real exposure to Alt. Country, this is the third album by a slightly obscure Canadian band, and I loved it. I'm sure there were many other better Alt Country albums this year, but as an introduction to the genre I enjoyed the hell out of this. 7. Never Better- P.O.S. A very solid and unique rap album that has a lot of stuff going for it, I really like the punk influences and references ("The oval office and the lobby probably listen to Fugazi singing 'This one's ours, lets take another'") 6. My Weakness Is Strong-Patton Oswalt (Hey, it never said it had to be a musical album) Just typical hilarious Patton Oswalt fare. Still probably my favorite comedian. 5. Slaughterhouse on the Prairie-Buckethead I think this is one of Buckethead's best albums in a while, it's just got tons of epic riffs and interesting ideas. 4. And So I Watch You From Afar-And So I Watch You From Afar This one cannot easily be described, I guess it could be called epic guitar post-rock. It's completely instrumental and is several guitars playing riffs, and is a lot more interesting than I'm describing it. One of the most unprecedented releases of the year. 3. The Ecstatic-Mos Def A fantastic rap album, probably his most consistent album. Not a bad song on the album in my opinion. 2. Merriweather Post Pavillion-Animal Collective I feel that this is the album that pushed the popular opinion of AC from being a unique acid-trip novelty project into a serious band. It somehow takes the trippy, dreamy, experimental things that Collective had done earlier and makes it into an accessible and well written almost pop album. 1. Crack the Skye-Mastodon Maybe it's because I saw this album performed live, but it just blew me away. Fantastic writing, very skillful instrumentals, and Mastodon continues their evolution into one of the most special acts in the current metal scene. It might be the most cohesive album I've ever heard.

I dig the idea, so I'll just post my top 10 in here. 10. Ace Enders and A Million Different People - When I Hit The Ground 09. Two Tongues - Two Tongues 08. Mae - (M)orning 07. Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix 06. Emery - In Shallow Seas We Sail 05. Pet Lions - Soft Right 04. Miniature Tigers - Tell It To The Volcano 03. Passion Pit - Manners 02. New Found Glory - Not Without A Fight 01. Say Anything - Say Anything I've honestly only listened to Two Tongues out of all of those. I'll have to check some of those out though. Two Tongues was great. Dude, you should check out Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo, Dead Hot Workshop, The Refreshments, and Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers if you like Alt. Country. Clyne is probably my favorite singer/song writer ever, he is just poetic and awesome (and co wrote the King of the Hill theme while int he Refreshments). I'm already familiar with Son Volt and Uncle Tupelo, and they're pretty excellent. I'll definitely keep the other ones in mind. Thanks. Ah, Son Volt. Reminds me of my drive from L.A. til Vegas in my Ford Mustang convertible this summer. Nothing like cruising the american desert highway with Son Volt blaring out the stereo.
