What are some genuinely (for the time being) original storylines.

USA Vs Hart Foundation and rest of the world 1997. Not very often the US fans turn heel like they did there.
Smoking Gunns Trully ahead of there time Broke Back mountain and Gay Cowboys were not even a blip on the radar at the time.

The whole HBK getting "bought out" by JBL angle from late 2008 to early 2009. That seemed original and "cashed in" (pun intended) on the whole economic meltdown stuff at the time.
The debut of Kane in 1997 right up to WrestleMania 14 in 1998.
As stated before, the Canada (Hart Foundation) vs. USA angle during spring/summer '97. I haven't recalled a time where the American wrestlers were the heels in any other "Foreigners vs. America" angles in quite some time. And it made for some damn good TV.

Actually, the whole JBL buying Michaels is a rehash of an older storyline, as the Million Dollar Man bought Nikolai Volkoff in the early-mid 90s.

MVP's 5 month losing streak. I don't remember anything of that magnitude where the guy wasn't a jobber or being released.

The May 19th thing was pretty original. And showed an astonishing amount of continuity when Kane ultimately revealed that May 19th was when his parents died. That'd been established years and years before. Though that raises the question of why Undertaker seemed a-okay about the date.
