Alot of people on this board defend Christian as their favorite WWE Champ, and there are alot of reasons for that. He has terrific ring work, a devoted fanbase, and a steady push as champion. However, he lacks one thing a wrestling show's top champion needs...
the "Spark". Its difficult to define the Spark. It isn't merely giving a good promo or putting on a great technical match. It isn't doing what the company asks of you or making your fanbase happy. It is difficult to define, but it is an awesome power that draws people towards you and makes you a true star. It doesn't involve great ringwork (Hogan matches sucked for ages, but he never lost the Spark to excite people). It doesn't involve great promos (Jeff Hardy and Goldberg were one-dimensional on the mic, but they always had the Spark to excite crowds). Its either there or it isn't.
In Christian, it isn't. He can retain or lose the match, I don't care. He can give a promo thanking his "peeps" or not, it doesn't matter. He can be champion for 6 months or a transitional holder for 1 week, its all the same. He doesn't have the Spark, the excitement within himself to carry an entire show on his back, certainly not for as long as his run goes. I can see him as a great midcarder. I can see him as a transitional champion. I can see him as a guy who chases the belt alot and rarely wins it. I can even see him as a main eventer who works with the guy who makes money (rather than making money himself).
I just can't see him as being a draw in and of himself. Remember when Big Show had the ECW Title and everyone was excited to see who he would finally lose to? That's the sort of thing ECW needs now, not a Christian reign that makes his fans happy but provides little in the way of "must-see TV".

Do you honestly think somebody on ECW is going to have the fans going crazy?
Its also not really his fault, the WWE could put much more excitement into his character.

Nobody's a good ECW Champion. The belt means next to nothing. If he were on a relevant brand with a belt that was worth a damn, he'd be doing fine.

Do you honestly think somebody on ECW is going to have the fans going crazy? Its also not really his fault, the WWE could put much more excitement into his character. How would you accomplish that, though? He's had what feels like the longest reign of any champion on any WWE brand this year. Turning him heel wouldn't solve much, since you have Jericho and (arguably) Punk doing things that are similar to his heel shtick. And a guy Christian's size would never be booked as a "dominant" heel in Sheamus fashion in WWE. As a face...what he's doing now is pretty much all he's got. Its very similar to how he acted in TNA as a face. He's had a very good run IMO in WWE so far...but he just isn't the type of guy to build an entire brand off of. Hell, I would've had Sheamus or even Yoshi beat him for the belt. They are young guys who could use the rub. Christian is at his peak popularity already.

Hey, he's better than Matt Hardy.
Well, granted, Hornswoggle as ECW champ would be better than Matt Hardy, but that's neither here nor there...

"Christian isn't a good ECW Champion." Ok then, how about the "Woo Woo Woo" guy named Zack Ryder, or the 2008 King of the Ring, William Regal.....I was joking. Christian and Shelton Benjamin are probably the best ECW has to offer right now.

TNA used Christian perfectly as a main eventer.
Cocky heel who can lose at any moment but he's got his lackeys to prevent it ala Flair & the Horsemen.

I think Christian just needs someone with a lot of charisma to play off of. I remember back when he was teamed with Edge and how great the two of them were at entertaining people then.
It would also help to give Christian something meaningful to do. On ECW most of Christian's stroylines have been all about Regal chasing the belt and not about Christian. I think that once he gets moved off the brand you could put him in a feud with Punk or Jericho. They would both work well with Christian and have some natural charisma for him to play off of.

He needs to fight and beat this guy, THEN he'll get the spark! (And his tights will change to light orange, too!)

I actually think he is doing a great job as ECW Champion, but the problem is that he already dominated Regal,Shelton,Zack Ryder,Tatsu,Dreamer, and the closest of a great feud he had was Dreamer or Regal.

I like him a lot. A whole lot. In fact, he's one of my absolute favorites. But I definitely don't think he's ever going to be THE guy in a company. I've come to accept that long ago. Still, being a world champ in the vein of an Eddie Guerrero or Chris Benoit wouldn't hurt, either.

Fun fact: Christian just surpassed The Big Show's title reign in length to become the longest reigning ECW Champion in the WWE incarnation.
I think he's the most credible holder of the belt since CM Punk (although Kane was credible, he never really went anywhere as ECW Champ). When I see Christian as ECW Champion, I don't think "oh, great. A washed up midcarder given the title as a thank you." I don't think "oh, jeez. They're just trying to ram this guy down our throats despite doing nothing to earn this belt."
The problem is that ECW virtually means nothing anymore. Three years ago it was, in kayfabe, treated like a viable third brand instead of a mere year-long-tour-of-duty and/or intersection between rookies and veterans. Christian's work in TNA proves that he can headline a promotion or brand. In ECW, like everyone else, he's just kind of there, waiting to go on to greater things.

I feel the same way about John Cena. I guess he's a bad champion too.
