I mean, they had Austin on TV after the neck injury, and even the Randy News Network served some purpose.
But now, a guy gets hurt, and it's like he died or something.
Seems to me you could work him into some kind of angle. Just having him there being paid to do nothing seems kind of useless to me.

Sometimes it is good to have a character off TV, so he becomes fresh again for the audience-

Some guys stay on TV injured. I think Santino did it somewhat recently, didn't he? Kennedy, MVP, and Carlito all also did the past 5 or so years.
Generally it's a better idea to have someone "take them out" and get to use that for a while than to have the guy stick around in a supporting role. Especially for a main eventer.
And with big long term injuries like the ones Rey, Edge, Batista, Cena have gotten in recent years they'd run out of stuff to do. Not to mention some of those injuries were far more serious than "just put it in a sling for a month or two", meaning it'd be better not to have them travel.

If the injury will heal better with them actually resting instead of incessantly traveling, they will likely stay home.

If you're going to be out for 6 months, watching cut promos for six months without being able to do anything would be old real quick.
Also, to sell the injury as being HUGE and possibly career ending. Then the other person in the feud can say that they put Wrestler X on the shelf and we wont' see him/her again yada yada yada.

Dude, injuries are pretty much the only time that wrestlers can get time off.
Now, some guys still do love being on the road, but others want to spend time with their families and rest. I don't blame injured wrestlers for staying home.

I assume depending on the injury you need rest, and rehab. Hard to do both when you're on the road.

And also keep in mind when an injured character is part of a feud/storyline it's very predictable that he will not be taking any serious bumps or anything like that. If s/he is not in condition to go, they don't want them taking bumps or the like. Maybe they can sell a punch of something, but no real attack or move.
Imagine hypothetically that Noble has legit neck/back injuries and shows up on Raw this Monday (or tonight, depending on time zone). You KNOW no matter what he does he isn't going to take any real bumps. Suddenly whatever involvement he has in a feud or story becomes too predictable.

It's also worth considering that when injuries occur, guys who may not of been pushed before get a chance to get tried out.

It depends on severity of injury and who the superstar is.
Edge's injury makes him unable to walk, so there's no reason for him to be on the show.
HBK's injury from 2007 was more to sell Orton's vicious gimmick.
So were the injuries Henry gave Batista, Rey, and Benoit in 2006.

It is something to use sparingly if possible and if there's a reason to do it, as mentioned. Though there is one recent example some people forgot - Orton hanging around onscreen for a couple of months last year before he was ready to return.

So they dont have to take drug test?
A certain few wrestlers come back huge after injuries
just something to think about

Hell, even some guys who aren't injured don't get to be on TV.
Look at Haas - he received a raise and was told to stay home with his family.
