Been watching a lot of Botchamanias today, and I"ve realized that Punk's springboard....whatever....is the New Flair going to the top rope.

What's the ratio?
I seriously can't recall him hitting the move more times than him missing it. Or maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part. I"m a sucker for the One Spot That Never Works, and I"d ;like to see it make a comeback.

How about Jericho's lionsault? Since coming back in '07, I think he's actually connected with it maybe two or three times.

Springboards in the WWE worry me because there ropes aren't the rubber cables like everywhere else. They give too much causing more botches then average.

Yeah, I think WWE is the only company whose rings use actual rope instead of cable. I know ROH and TNA rings use cable. It's really hard to do any maneuvers off the ropes in WWE because they're so loose, I remember worrying about Nigel not being about to hit the Lariat when he was gonna go to WWE. Getting back to the topic, I don't recall Punk ever hitting one of these Springboards, anyone have a GIF or video handy?

He used to hit his springboard clothesline in nearly every match until turning heel. He's been using it at least since debuting in ECW. It normally connects.

When Punk is heel, that is the spot he gets hosed on, but as a face it is a viable offensive tool.
And yeah, I too am a sucker for the spot that always gets caught or misses.

Yeah, it usually connected as a face. I remember Elijah dropkicking him once in ECW and Batista reversing it with a spinebuster but that was about it. Now, it gets turned on him as often as not. Hell, he even got caught for the Side Effect out of it recently.

Plus, the thing with the Lionsault and the Anglesault is that you know exactly which spot they're going for. If Punk keeps missing the Springboard...Whatever, it could conceivably reach the status of Flair's Top Rope....whatever.
In that nobody has any idea what it is exactly that he's trying to accomplish.

Sorta like the old tag-team thing where the one heel takes down the face, and the other heel walks down from one corner to another, climbs to the top turnbuckle, and jumps down. Then the babyface lifts his boot and kicks the heel in the face, except the heel never made any attempt to do any actual move off the top, except "jump down and catch a boot in my face." The last guys who did that on a regular basis were Cade and Murdoch. BTW - anyone interested in Cody and Trevor teaming up just like their daddies did 35 years ago?

To add to this, I remember when he fought Morrison on ppv(GAB, I think)for the ECW Title & he went for the springboard clothesline, but Morrison dropkicked his legs & pinned him to win the match, which was a stupid finish to a Title match on ppv.

Everyone and their mother pulled that spot. What I"m talking about is like What Flair does with his Top Rope....Whatever. Ric is the only guy you will ever watch go to the top rope and automatically think "Well he's gonna get caught and thrown off." That doesn't happen to anyone else. I think Punk could reach that level

He got the last name Murdoch because he looked so damn much like Dick back in the day.

I marked because I'd seen the boot to the jaw spot so many times
