In a shoot interview, Sid claimed that his '96 world title run is what started the Attitude Era and convinced Vince to start building up antiheroes. Well, while it's debatable that Sid's reign started the Attitude era (I could see a very broad case being made for the claim), we have no real way of knowing that Sid's reign (and the crowd's reaction to him at the time) isn't what convinced Vince to start pushing antiheroes. Yeah, I think its safe to say that Sid was a pretty successful anti-hero and was involved early in the Attitude Era, though I would hardly say he started it.

Another one from the Outlaws shoot. They were brought into DX because Hunter and Shawn wanted to 'look cool'.

I'd say the fans reaction to Austin during the beginning of the Austin Bret feud, helped get it started. Bret was the returning hero, yet there were people in the crowd at Survivor Series 1996, cheering Austin over Bret.

"Jeff made one of your favorites, CM Punk, a legitimate main-eventer on Jeff's way out the door. So maybe you can at least find respect in that fact." -Matt Hardy All Jeff really did for CM Punk is let him cut him to shreds in promos. As far as any of their matches go, Punk carried him, just like every other Jeff Hardy opponent has ever done.

- Dynamite Kid saying that he put a shotgun under his wife's chin for laughs. - Dynamite Kid saying that he would gladly do everything that led to him ending up in a wheel chair again. - Kevin Nash's comments about vanilla midgets. - Shawn Michaels claiming that Austin and HHH were the only legit champions the WWF had. - - "This is the new WCW!"

Bret was the returning hero, yet there were people in the crowd at Survivor Series 1996, cheering Austin over Bret. But they cheered their lungs out for Sid at that PPV too. The pop for his title win was huge, so the same case could be made for Sid. Overall, though, I think it was just a smarky crowd that night. I mean, it WAS Madison Square Garden. New York crowds tend to love their heels, it seems.

Anything that Kurt Angle says, post-WWE:
"I carried Hulk Hogan to a five-star match in 2002!" "I'm gonna try out for MMA!" "I'm my own agent, booker, and wrestler!"
Not to mention Brock Lesnar, post-WWE-pre-MMA. He is to pro wrestling as David Caruso was to NYPD Blue.

Sid claiming that he was more successful than either Austin or The Rock because he had been a top guy in two organizations (without mentioning that it was in-the-doldrums late-90s WWF and sinking-like-a-rock WCW). Whereas Rock & Austin had only been big shots in the WWF (though it was during a huge boom that sold out arenas and tons of merchandise plus got record-breaking ratings largely on the momentum of their popularity).
Also I remember Greg Valentine claiming that Hogan was going to start a new televised wrestling promotion with Greg as his #2 guy. Mind you this was 1999 or so at the latest.

I'm implementing a drug testing plan more thorough than the one used by the International Olympic Committee. It will test for performance enhancing drugs, recreational drugs, and drugs used to mask the use of other drugs. Anyone caught violating the company's anti-drug policy will be punished. - Vince McMahon in 1994 (prior to numerous drug-related deaths of WWF/WWE wrestlers)
