Wow, I always thought Conan was very funny. Strange.

I watched Leno's monolouge last night. He came across as extremely bitter and unprofessional. Kinda like a kid who was going to take his ball and go home if he didn't get things his way.
I never really liked the guy. This just cements it.
Conan deserves this, NBC will screw themself over because Leno is clearly not going to last forever and with Conan being much younger, NBC would be setting themselves up for the future.
Ah well, what do I know? I'm not running the network. I just love Conan.

Why do people talk like Leno has had his time in the sun and should "step down"? Why the hell would he do that? That's a terrible career idea, and I don't understand why he should be trying to help someone else's career. It'd be different if he were to push some kid down the stairs for not getting him an everything bagel, but to use his power to further his career? Hardly a dick move.

It'd be different if he were to push some kid down the stairs for not getting him an everything bagel, but to use his power to further his career? Hardly a dick move. I guess the main gripe is that Leno announced a few years back that he would be retiring and stepping down at a certain point, he knew Conan would be his successor. Then, for whatever reason, he changed his mind and didn't want to leave. NBC held him to his word and gave Conan his show. Leno decided that fine, I'll got to another network and compete against Conan. Which was fine by me, Leno and Conan have two different audiences and I doubt either man would lose out. NBC said, "Well, we'll put you on before Conan, even though we, and a lot of others, have a strong feeling you're not going to make it." Now, this situation is a total mess. As much as I dislike Leno (not really a fan of his comedy) NBC should just let Leno go, they only have themselves to blame for it in the end, they should have let him him go to FOX..but, doesn't FOX already have a late night show with George Lopez? I could be wrong.

I watched Leno's monolouge last night. He came across as extremely bitter and unprofessional. Kinda like a kid who was going to take his ball and go home if he didn't get things his way. And here's a transcript of said monologue: "Happy birthday to Katie Couric, it's her birthday today. She left NBC for another network. I have to give her call to see how that is working out. As you may have heard, there is a rumor floating around that we were cancelled. I heard it coming in this morning on the radio. So far no one has said anything to me. But, Kev, if we did get cancelled, it will give us time to do some traveling. I understand that Fox is beautiful this time of year.
I don’t think there is any truth to the rumors. See, it’s always been my experience that NBC only cancels you when you're in first place. So we are fine. We are OK...
[Later, Leno inserted this comment after a joke.] You know what happened? NBC found four guns in my locker. I was suspended. [Kevin says, “I’m glad they didn’t find them in my locker.”] We will keep following this story....
[Later, Leno returns to NBC yet again.] The Justice Department announced they will conduct an anti-trust review of Comcast's proposed deal to merge with NBC. An anti-trust review. Which is the relationship i have with NBC. Anti-trust. Hey Kev, what does NBC stand for? Never believe your contract."So, uh...yeah. There's taking The Simpsons/Family Guy route of mocking your network. And then there's this.

found this on TMZ NBC has given Conan O'Brien the option to either do his show from midnight to 1 or leave the network, sources tell TMZ. As TMZ first reported, after the Olympics, Jay Leno will get his 11:30 PM time period back. We're told network execs have told Conan they will let him decide if he wants the midnight to 1:00 AM time slot. If he does, Leno's show will only be a half hour. If Conan walks, Leno will get a full hour, informed sources tell TMZ. Our sources say Conan has not decided what he wants. We do know he's pissed, because he was given no advanced warning this was coming. Conan's people told NBC they are considering the offer. Translation: Mr. O'Brien -- I have Rupert Murdoch on line one, Stephen McPherson on line two, John Landgraf on line three, Jeff Wachtel on line four ... We're told if Conan gets another offer, even though NBC could block the move, they will let him go and give Leno the full hour. Not a bad time slot but if I'm Conan, I'd definitely be shopping my services still.

Hogan/Leno vs. DDP/Conan. Book it, TNA. Swap DDP with Sheamus and it would kick seven kinds of ass. Leno taking a bicycle kick to that egregious chin of his would be GOLD. GOLD I tell you! Sheamus/Conan.....So basically Pale Force version 2.0 then? We are Conando's Commandos. And the Conandistadors as well as the Conandistas. Since I know Conan is a Clash fan, I would love it if the first song the MW7 played for either the last episode on the Tonight Show, or Conan's new show the first song after the monologue should be Career Opportunities.

I can't blame Conan or Leno this whole mess is NBC's fault for trying to have their cake and eat it too. Just in case it hasn't been explained yet. What happened was Conan was going to leave and go to FOX because he wanted to try his hand at a proper late night slot. So NBC says don't go we will give you the Tonight Show. So basically they forced Leno out but promised him the 10 pm slot. So at the end of the day its all on the network executives who should have just let Conan go to FOX.

However, Leno pulled back and wasn't ready to hand over the reigns like he had thought he wanted to -- so NBC appeased him and gave him the 10 o'clock show. The 10 o'clock show basically cut the legs of both shows, as the people used to Leno don't understand why he is on earlier, and the people that liked the drama time slot on NBC are now out of luck, since they are not wanting to watch Leno at that time. Pretty sticky situation all around.

What Latino Meat said.
I'm not a fan of Jay Leno (I don't find him funny).
If I were Conan I'd tried to strike a deal with FOX. If any network knows how to market their programming, FOX does, and they would market Conan during American Idol, House, Glee and all their highest rated shows.

Pretty sticky situation all around. You know fellas it's funny because this whole stepping aside thing was to not have a situation like the one between Jay/Dave when Johnny left. Now I can't blame Conan one bit for being pissed. Like you said LM, NBC tried to have their cake and eat it too. I don't think the American public at this moment in time wants a 10pm talk show. Yet to give Leno his old spot back because he failed at attracting an audience? Meh. Now Conan, of course, hasn't been a ratings winner as well, but I place that more on the fact because of Dave vs. Palin and Lettermen's affair controversary. Remember Leno was a ratings loser as well until Hugh Grant came on his show after the infamous hooker incident. Solidarity, Conan my brother, solidarity.

This isn't Conan's fault. It's a combination of NBC and Jay Leno's fault.
Back in (I believe) 2006, NBC announced that Conan O'Brien would be taking the reigns of "The Tonight Show" starting in 2009. Everyone was fine with that. Leno had his fifteen years, he had done a good enough job, people liked him and ratings were solid.
Then, in 2008, rumblings begin to surface, that ABC would be going balls-out to sign Leno to be the head of their late-night talk show. Leno never officially announced that he was considering the deal or was going to sign with ABC, but he at least listened to what they had to say.
NBC, showing absolutely no faith in Conan O'Brien whatsoever, decides that there's no way they can just let Leno walk to another network. They go all-out to try to keep him right where he is, completely ignoring their promise to hand "The Tonight Show" to O'Brien the following year.
Then, NBC and Leno make one of the shadier deals in television history, agreeing to "The Jay Leno Show", an hourly variety program that would run five days a week. When this decision was announced, Conan O'Brien should have chucked the middle finger right at Leno and NBC and walked out.
NBC and Leno completely submarined Conan and the network as a whole. Ratings took an absolute nosedive, shows were canceled, and "The Tonight Show" never got off to a good enough start during the summer of 2009, to the point where it could be its own definable program once "The Jay Leno Show" started in the fall.
Jimmy Kimmel summed it up best in the summer of 2009. "NBC did everything they could to keep Jay Leno, even if it meant killing their own network." That's essentially what they've done. They have crippled NBC programming and ruined their relationship with O'Brien, simply because they were afraid of Leno leaving.
They have coddled Leno so much over the past year that he has absolutely no right to be bitter at the network. I mean, has he seen the numbers for his show? They are humiliatingly low. He had to know this was coming, but for whatever reason, he's upset that NBC is still offering him work. Can you think of any other network offering work to the person who has single-handedly obliterated an entire lineup of programming?
It would be like the ratings for "American Idol" spiraling out of control, and then they cancel the show, but give Simon Cowell his own new show, and Cowell bitching endlessly about it.
Leno has come off as a petulant child through all of this, NBC has come off as a group of bumbling fools trying to protect one person over an ENTIRE NETWORK, and O'Brien is coming off as the good soldier, just doing his job. If Conan flees for ABC or FOX, no one can fault him. He's done his job, and it's not his fault the ratings are down for his show.

I think it would be cool if Letterman latched onto this controversy. I'd love to hear his thoughts, especially on Leno's power plays.
