I...actually liked this movie a lot. I can see where not everyone would...ie most of the critics. But man, whatever. I enjoyed the hell out of it and I found the end to be genuinely touching.
Maybe I'm biased because I've actually liked most things Michael Mann has done, but...iunno, it wasn't as bad as people seemed to make it out to be. Johnny Depp made a good John Dillinger. Christian Bale...sucked, which is odd. But hey!

It's not a bad movie. I would say its pretty good. It's got some worthwhile qualities. Good cast, Depp is a terrific John Dillinger, and in Mann's trademark peculiar (and expensive) aesthetics attention to detail while showing off more the wonders of digital cameras.
Public Enemies though is just not one of Mann's better efforts. If anything, after Heat and Collateral, I feel like Mann has been derivative of himself to a fault with his last two pictures in this and Miami Vice. He's almost trapped in the cops & crooks sandbox, only allowed to play by Hollywood when he plays their game.
I mean look at Last of the Mohicans and The Insider, where Mann excels as a filmmaker and proves that he is more than remaking Heat again and again.
Speaking of which, he's producing a new TV show for I think HBO (or is it Showtime?) about gambling. That should be fun.

I thought it was an excellent film. Johnny Depp was fantastic and he seems to have been ignored when it comes to the Acting nominations this year.

First seeing this in theaters, I thought it was boring, even though I'm a sucker for gangster flicks, and I was excited for this having heard about it years before it was made.
I think it was really a case of false advertising. I went in with the impression that it was going to be about the FBI going after Dillinger, Floyd, and Nelson. Instead, it was the Dillinger and his girlfriend show. Not a lot of bank robbing, not that many shootouts, and Nelson and Pretty Boy are in the movie for all of ten minutes.
But I can appreciate it for what it is now.

I liked this ked this version myself You know, DC Comics really blew the potential of President Lex Luthor. Instead of once again another world-conquest scheme of the week, but behind the Resolute Desk... I would think Luthor would get more glee from annoying the total crap out of Superman by not running another world-conquest scheme (but behind a Resolute Desk), but...by being a good President.

I thought it was solid. Depp was very good as usual, and that final scene with Cotillard was MONEY.

I liked it but it felt like it was missing something really. Not a film that lives long in the memory to be honest.
