Ok, I've been watching wrestling now since 1993 and this has always bothered me.
Why does the bell always ring when the heel(s) is/are beating up the face(s) after the match is over? It's like someone honestly expects the heels to say: "You know, they're right. I shouldn't be doing this" and then slink off in embarrassment.
Has anyone ever seen this work?

I always thought it was an attempt to summon help from the back, be it extra officials or face wrestlers or whatever.

Well why does a alarm go off when someone bad robs a store? Its to alert the authoritys *in wrestling namely the refs* to storm the ring and stop the encounter.

It's one of those famous wrestling mysteries. Like, why does the ref bother to count when a guy goes to a top rope, or how come a match has never ended during a commercial break.

It's apparently there for the referees and jobbers to come get their asses kicked until the real wrestlers come in so they can get some help.

I guess in a way its to further emphasise their heeldom, a reminder to everyone watching that the match is over and yet the dastardly villain is still laying a beatdown. Sorta adds to the drama a bit.

Maybe the heels didn't hear the bell? It's probably all just a big misunderstanding.

The ropes are technically outside of the ring. That is why they count and there are rope breaks for submissions, you are no longer in the ring. Now why the ropes are outside of the ring is a mystery to me. WCW, GWF and USWA have all had matches end during the commercials but, it was by run in and when they came back you saw one of the people in the match getting their ass kicked so you knew what had happened.

Or why the 'No clenched fist' rule is almost never remembered. Or why referee's can somehow gain enough energy to crawl over at the exact point when a pinfall is being made. (They don't get up randomly in the match unless it's to catch a weopon user) Or why ref's seem incapable of hearing the sound of a steal chair being used, despite the fact the sound can be heard all the way up in the cheap seats. Or how a ref is somehow able to survive many suicide attempts such as putting his head into a circular blade or getting shot in the head. Ref's. We may never understand these strange, yet fascinating creatures.

It always confused me as to why in a falls count anywhere match, or a street fight, or in any match where you can get a pin on the floor that the ref calls for the break when the guy gets to the ropes. You can pin them in the street, but not in the ropes? It's No DQ, but if you don't break by 5 the ref will do something?

How come when your in a sleeper hold, you don't have enough strength to break out of it until your hand is coming down for the third time?
How come, if you've been in the wrestling game for some years, you still think its a good idea to irish whip someone into the turnbuckle and then run in after them - surely you know they're going to move/put their knee up etc.
How come when someone unexpected runs into the ring to make a save, the guys on the video/audio desk just happen to have the theme music and entrance video ready to go??
Ahhh, I wish I was still a little mark....

I like the spontaneous heel turn at the end of a tag match.
"I'll team with this guy, take scoop slams for 15 minutes, then join the people who scoop slammed me"
