I am in the midst of moving and I have a ton of dvds (500-600). Right now they are just sitting in plastic storage bins. Is it wrong that I just want to get rid of all of the cases and put them into CD/DVD binders? How do you guys and gals keep your stuff stored. Just want to know if I should wait till I move and by a couple of cabinets/stands for them?

I have mine on a bookshelf and in shoeboxes after I ran out of room. Keeping them in their cases looks better as far display purposes are concerned. Plus binders have a dendency to scratch CDs and DVDs quite easily.

DVD Racks. I only have 3 that holds about 50. I have at least 300 DVDs but I think if I move out of my current situation, I might have to go with a bookshelf.

I have one of these filled up: The sleeves have a soft surface to prevent scratching, and the DVDs hang upright to prevent any possible bending. I know some people like having shelves of DVDs in their original cases, but that doesn't matter one bit to me.

Where can i get/find something like that? $29 shipped. Got mine from the same site. 255 sleeves that can be doubled up to hold 510 total, but I prefer to keep one CD per sleeve and just bought some extra spare sleeves. Looks like it might be a chore to find a certain disc when you want it, but over time I pretty much memorized where everything is inside.

I have 2 bookshelves, but I've now started having to double up the DVD. It's a bit of a problem, I should really unload some DVD's that I don't like/watch.

Yeah, I need to start finding some alternate storing for my DVDs. I have this armoire type thing that I keep most of my DVDs in but that's getting full. I think I might have to buy more shelves but I don't know where I'd put them, especially considering I share the living room with my roommates. I think if/when I get my own place, I'm gonna buy enough shelves for my DVDs to cover a wall.
But I don't think I could ever take the DVDs out of their cases and put them in a binder or sleeves or anything. What would you do with all the cases? Throw them away? Something seems so very wrong about that to me. Would you rip the cover off your books then put all the pages in a binder? I'm not knocking anyone who wants to do that, it just seems weird to me.

Would you rip the cover off your books then put all the pages in a binder? No, because there's really no practical reason for going through that kind of trouble. The main reason to put DVDs in a storage unit is to save space and makes your collection portable/easy to carry. It's an extremely easy process. Ripping the cover off a book and putting the pages in a binder accomplishes none of that. All I want is the disc, and the case is easy to toss away. If there's a booklet with episode listings for TV shows, I'll keep that, but that's it.

I'm a recorded DVD junkie, and that could really come in handy.

I know some people like having shelves of DVDs in their original cases, but that doesn't matter one bit to me. That's exactly what I bought before I moved to the US. I had 800 or so DVD's, so I took all the inlays out and threw the empty cases away. If you ever decide to display them again then you can pick up empty DVD cases at really good prices on eBay.

i keep mine in cd/dvd binders, buts thats because i have extremely limited space. i still have all the cases in various storage spaces and as soon as i move to a bigger place i'm going to buy a big bookshelf or something and keep them in their cases again.

Yeah, I need to find more shelving eventually. I also started packing to move but before hand, my DVD organization kept altering to fit whatever shelving I have.
I got a DVD shelf that holds about 100+ DVDs at Wal-Mart years ago that used to house all my DVD's and VHS. Then all my DVDs (even after I started replacing VHS with DVD) and got some little # shaped shelves at a charity sale. Then all my DVD's minus my kung fu movies. Then all my DVD's minus those, public domain in general, etc. Finally, I had to remove all the superhero movies.
I do have a big ass shelve my grandfather gave me that has at least two... if not three or four times the shelf space, barely holds all my wrestling tapes. Although, VHS seriously takes up room.
Hopefully when I move, though, my dad installs my mecha-shelf. When my gram moved from the run down house they were in to a nice trailer in the same yard, she asked what I wanted so I ended up taking this giant ass shelf she had in the living room knowing it wouldn't fit in the new place. Thing is at least twelve feet long, I think closer to fifteen. My dad actually bought it for her years ago for like $5. Now with the width and stuff, I shutter to even think of the price they'd want at Lowes for a board it's size.
