I just got done watching I'm From Hollywood and I started thinking - why isn't Andy Kaufman in the Hall of Fame? He's really the only celebrity that did anything in the wrestling business. Doesn't WWE own the Mid-South footage?
Kaufman was a genius and understood the business more than a lot of people do today, IMO.
Lawler could introduce him and Tony Clifton (Bob Zmuda) could accept it.
What do you guys think?

They should do it.
It's not like the WWE HOF is taken seriously.

I'm all for it. Surprised, huh? If Hulk Hogan Pete Rose can be in the thing for getting piledrived, of course Kaufman deserves a spot.

yeah. I agree. If pete rose is there, then Kaufman, who actually did something, should be in.

If only for Kaufman and Lawler performing the greatest worked shoot in history, Kaufman is a hall of famer.

Kaufman's stint was the best heel character ever, lack of any actual wrestling or training included. Was just thinking about this today. Would love if they'd put some of his stuff to DVD, it'd beat having to wait around for Comedy Cnetral to replay I'm From Hollywood.
OH, I'M THE KING! OH, I'M THE KING! OH, I'M THE KING OF MEMPHIS, TENNESEE!

actually, Im for this. I have no problem with him being inducted as well as Mr. T as they both did something in the sport.

I definitely agree. I mean, if Pete Rose can get in by being piledriven while wearing a chicken suit, and let Andy in.

I think that unlike many of the celebrities who came to wrestling, Andy Kaufman truly loved the business and had more respect for it. He wasnt in the business for the money and fame.

Definitely one of the top 3 that should be there. Really, I would just love to hear what Lawler would say, considering I don't ever recall an actual live interview where he discussed it candidly. Just in his book I think.

what would really be perfect is if Lawler was the one who inducted him

only if Jim Carrey accepts on his behalf, and then gives a speech as Kaufman.

I agree. I've seen some of the stuff Kaufman did during his run in Memphis with Lawler and I was impressed. He really did seem to understand the nature of the business and was an excellent heel. Because he was never in the WWE though, I don't see it happening. But from a celebrity standpoint, Kaufman and Mr. T are the only ones who should go in.
BTW, I heard that Andy Kaufman originally approached the McMahons first before Lawler. I don't know if it's true or not but if it is, I imagine it was Vince Sr who turned this down. No way would Vince Jr pass up a chance.

Ofersure. I'm the one who posted the Andy Kaufman comeback angle.
Kaufman was the original Borat.
Now if Lawler inducted him, and then Andy came out to accept it...
Nah, I'm dreaming again.

The love and understanding Andy had for wrestling really showed, dude was a master-heel. How many skinny actors could come in and create heat like that not just with wrestling-fans but comedy-club audiences?

Blassie has a whole chapter on Andy in his book, and he really comes off as a guy who wanted to be a heel his whole life. Definitely induct him.
